Hey their junker,
Looks like the Guys have got you covered pretty good, but I will just throw my 2 cents in here for the heck of it. Getting back to the heavy foot thing, Not necessarily getting on it, but what kind of speed is averaged while running around? The reason I ask is, I used to drive a 18 wheeler cross country and, like most large company trucks, the Truck I drove had a speed governer that regulated our speed to a max of 65 MPH. Since I used to have a daily driving quota of 550 - 600 miles, 65 MPH always seemed sooooo slooow, and I always wanted a faster truck! Eventually I got the opportunity to borrow another Truck when mine was in the shop for a few weeks. The thing went 75 MPH (only 10 MPH faster) Little did I know that 10 MPH could make suck a huge difference in fuel consumption! Check out these numbers! At 65 MPH, I could run a fully loaded Truck on average 1200 miles on 200 gallons of Diesel. At 75 MPH, I could run a fully loaded Truck on average 650 - 700 miles on the same 200 gallons of Diesel! That's the main reason why many Trucking Companies run their Trucks slow at cruising speed., and some even are now cutting back down to 63 MPH to extend the savings. If fact when the fuel got really high a while back, even the Airlines were announcing that they were going to slow down their airspeed to cut costs. Now, I totally understand that its hard to drive slow, especially if you are used to driving 75 MPH or more, but it really doesn't give that much more time! If you drove 10 hours straight, you would only gain around 60 miles, or one hour of driving time. Take that into the context of a small commute, and the time lost from going slower is minimal! So, if you have taken care of everything else, maybe try slowing your average speed down a bit, and see how much more fuel you save! Worth a try! Thats my 2 cents for what its worth Good luck, and take er easy! Candyman
