I had a buddy of mine suck all the orange crap out, and switched mine over to green. I asked an expert what the difference was, and he said just the color. He said prestone has the same silicates and such in it to prevent rusting.

I also had some of that brown stuff around the top of the resevoir, I just took a hose and over flowed it until it was completely clean.

Green and Orange are Apples and Oranges.

Green is a three year coolant primarily deisgend for the only iron component systems.

The Orange is a five year coolant designed for aluminun component systems.

Mixing the two will generally give you a "Jello" like sludge in your cooling system that will reak havoc on you cooling system.

If you feel that you must go "Green"--completeley flush your system and add the proper mixture of fluid and distilled water--why distilled--less interaction between the fluid and the metal components.

Since the Green is not designed for your system--what is your rationale for the change?

I did have it completely flushed. All the orange was removed and the green was put in there, mixed with correct portions like you said.

The reason is quite simple, the green is less expensive and more readily available.

my wife's engine light came on this morning. when i checked under the hood the only thing out of fluid was the coolant. we did just give it an oil change sunday. i filled it up w/prestone (actually kind of overfilled a little) drove it around for a while and the light is still on. is that normal? will the light go off by itself? we did add prestone "works w/all fluid colors" coolant to the reservoir.

The engine light tells you that the computer has found a fault. Find out what the fault is before getting rid of the light. Here's how...

How to retrieve fault codes.

When you retrieve the fault code and want to get rid of the light, take the negative battery cable off for about 5 minutes. That will clear the fault from the computer.

I hope your Prestone coolant was HOAT based or possibly you will clog up your radiator and engine if you continue that use.

it says it has the same diethylene glycol & ingredients as the orange stuff. (it's also pre-mixed)
