'07 PT owner, new to forum.
I've searched the posts but I'm not sure about the difference between what folks are calling transponder and key... I have 2 keys, one with the remote "clicker" which will start the car, and one plain key which will only unlock the doors. I've had the car a couple of years, but my son just got his DL and I need to make a new ignition key. If I get the key blank i.e. Here is that the transponder Cartman referred to in the new remote programming thread- it does not appear that the new blank has a button to push. Do I have what it takes to program my own new key, or am I stuck going to the dealer? |

Should the same work for my 06 all in one key??

I too only received one key. My key does not have a key to lock/unlock doors. Could I get a key fob programmed to work even if my car did not come with one. I was told that '06 base PTs only came with the grey transponder key.
Thx, 66CUDA |

In the tech forums stickies (I believe) is a link for all pt cruiser owners manuals. Follow the link, download your manual. It contains the instructions for how to prgram a new blank to work with your respective vehicle(s).
The cruiser keys have a chip in them that is activated when it is in direct metal to metal contact with the ignition module and only keys that have been programmer to that vehicle can be used. As for cut type Chrysler uses only a set number of cuts for the barrels (I forget the exact number) their fix to the random key working was to add the chip to the key itself. If you try to use a key that is unproframmed the engine may start but will run for only 2 seconds before setting off the security system. Cuda - you should be able to buy a blank fob from a dealer and be able to program it to your car unless one of the following is true: a) your car does not have electronics locks or b) the previous owner already used the allotted four fob programming (a cruiser allows up to four fobs to be programmed to the car, after that you're f'd, so says my owner's manual for my '04). The owners manual "sticky" is right here on top of the "General PT Cruiser Discussions" part of the forum.

I've read several threads about programming the car to accept the key, but in each one the instructions that were given were the ones to program the fob.
I've got two working keys. I've got one uncut key. I'd like to get the key cut and then program the car to accept that third key. Can anyone post instructions on how to do that? Or if you have better search luck than me and find a thread that doesn't just cover the fob, could you post that? Thanks! |
