I have a "whirring" sound in my right front wheel area. I have taken my PTC to a dealer and a couple independent shops that I thought I could trust. 5 mechanics have taken a test drive and NONE of them hear what is getting increasingly louder by the day. I had the wheels rotated thinking that was the problem, but it wasn't. I would appreciate any suggestions. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? Thank you!

A lot of owners have had problems with the wheel bearings. It's good possibility that is your problem. Other than that, it's possible you have a tear in in the axle boot where dirt enters and plays havoc with the CV joint. Either way, a decent mechanic should have spotted those problems which brings us back to your original question of you looking for an excellent mechanic.

Thank you ...just CREWZIN along! My father was a mechanic, then service and parts manager, then salesman for Cashman Cadillac in Las Vegas for 37 years before he retired. He thought it may be the "universal" joint and was corrected that there are no longer "universal" joints, instead CV joints. He is happy with his 89 year old self to think that he was at least "in the neighborhood" of the problem. I'm hoping for a mechanic recommendation in Las Vegas. Your response is appreciated and you have given me more information to share with whoever the mechanic will be. Again, thanks!

Well just remember it's only a guess on my part because "noise" is hard to diagnose over the Internet but those are the two main causes of owners hearing and sometimes feeling that something is wrong from the wheel area. As far as bearings go, if it does turn out to be the wheel bearing, change both sides, not just one. If it's a CV joint you can replace just one.

Hey their Cool Vanilla 205,
I would have to agree with Crewzin as a lot of pT's have had issues with wheel bearings going bad early on, but If you still want to look into a good reputable PT Shop over in Vegas, maybe try to contact John over at Eights & Aces PT Club over there in Vegas. They are a good sized PT Club, and should be able to get you in contact with a good PT Mechanic! I wish you the best of luck, and be sure to tell them Candyman sent you! Here is the Link. Eights & Aces PT Cruisers Take er easy! Candyman

Hey Cool Vanilla 2005,
No problem! Always glad to help out! Hey, since your over in the Vegas Area, Their are a couple of big all PT Show coming up close by you! The PT River Run in Laughlin March 12 - 15, and then the Freedom Run over at Buffalo Bills in April I believe. I will be at the River for sure! That event usually draws 350+ PT's annually, and is pretty fun, and the Freedom Run as I hear it is pretty cool too! I have a write up in PT Events, and their is one on the Freedom Run in their too. Maybe worth checking out since your close to both! Take er easy! Candyman
