Default Head gasket failure at ~11,000 miles

.

Updated - post 18.

At around 11,000 miles I'm guessing my car started leaking oil down the backside of the block. At the 11,858 mile oil change the mechanic noted the leak and replaced the oil pressure sending unit. Now, at 2,600 miles later I notice oil specs on my rear bumper (a good sign that an oil leak is present).

I take it in for another oil change today and ask them to check for leaks. They found that the head gasket is leaking oil. Outstanding, considering it had around only 11,000 miles when it stated leaking.

Here are some questions now, please answer any that you can...

Is there something they do different to actually "fix" the problem, or is it thrown back together using the same type of parts as the factory used?

Will it start leaking again?

Do they replace the timing belt?

How much would a dealer charge me for just the belt?

Is a head gasket failure covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty?

Yeah, it's a 2007 base model. Bought it new with only 9 miles. Put "in service" at the end of Feb of '08, so it's not even a year old yet.

Edit: I've owned it for less than a year, even though it is actually older than a year.

I would get it back to the dealer I really think it should be covered under the 36000 mile war. but I am sure they will use the old parts just a new head gasket and check the head to besure there are no defects in it as far as warpped or cracks But first of all they will make sure that it is the headgasket and not something else

They are going to fix it under warranty, I just hope this problem doesn't keep coming back. I checked the lifetime powertrain warranty, and it looks like it should cover the headgasket.

It is not a common problem. I've read of a few, but with over a million PTs out there, there are bound to be some. If they repair it right, you should be fine.

Our 2005 head gasket went at 18000miles. Was fixed under warranty and 100 miles later went again. Poor buggers had to do it all again.!!! Apparently Chrysler upgraded the head gasket but the mechanics were sent the old type first time. Now on 24000 miles and running like a RR.

Well, it's in the shop now to be repaired. The loaner car they gave me is a 2009 Taurus with 3,300 miles.

The service guy said the head gasket is covered by the lifetime powertrain waranty, so I'm not worried if it starts leaking again.
