Question Airbag dash light malfunction

My airbag warning light came on the other day and dinged at me. As I drove it started coming on more frequently and now it stays on constantly, dinging at me repeatedly.
I know this indicates a malfunction in the system but I was wondering if their was a recall on anything in the system.
Oh, and the seatbelt light every now and then stays on and dings constantly even after I put on my seatbelt.
Help please, it's driving me crazy!!!
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. This is from PT Do-It-Yourself.net

I have a 2001 LE PT with 45.5k miles and automatic transmission. I started the car and the instrument lights came on and off like normal during start-up, except that the airbag light came on and never went off. The light stays lit after starting and only goes off when the ignition is turned off. Is there a simple fix? - Bill, from Texas.

The airbag indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights for six to eight seconds as a bulb test each time the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. Following the bulb test, the airbag indicator lamp is turned ON or OFF by the Occupant Restraint Controller to indicate the status of the airbag system. If the airbag indicator lamp comes ON at any time other than during the bulb test, it indicates that there is a problem in the airbag system. Such a problem may cause the airbags not to deploy when required, or to deploy when not required. The dealer must diagnose the system using their DRB scan tool to determine the exact nature of the problem. (It can be helpful to conduct and provide us with the results of the two vehicle self-tests when you experience a MIL related issue like this.)

Well, not to bring up an old post, however...

My airbag light came on last night, and i noticed the horn doesnt work well when the lights on, however sometimes when i hit the horn it will mke a few strange dying noises, and then work and the light turns off.

Now my mechanic said he will have to diag it, however he said that it could be that spring that ppl have talked about.

I just wanted to ask thouht, I replaced the multi function switch for the fog lights just a week ago or so... Would that have anyhting to do wtih this issue? Maybe its not seated properly...

Do your blinkers work? Did you change the relay from the old MF to the new one? I installed fig lamps on my '02 a few years ago and for got to remove & replace it. Make sure all of your wiring connections are tight, if I remember correctly there are two connections that have to be made.

I don't think that what you have done would have interfered with the clockspring area.

Well my mechanic called me back, states that the issue pertains to the passanger side air bag, however it needs an air bad simulator to diagnoise.

I have an app for today to bring it ot he dealer, but I wonder if I should try reseathing that connection before I go up to them.

Anyone have an idea of the cost to have the dealer use the air bag simulator and what this may be entailing?

Well as an update if anyone wanted to know, I wasted $80 to bring it to the dealer to say they fond nothing wrong, however my mechanic did find it to be something with the passanger side air bag, however they couldnt find out exactally what.

They did say they took the air bag out and made sure the connections were tight, and since then the light was out..

OH WELL...
