i would just like to share this upsetting news

hello everyone. i am a diehard pt cruiser fan! wooo! anyways, today i was going shopping on my day off from work. i live in ct, so we had crap weather, and the roads were a tad wet (in some spots) so im going the speed limit (40mph) and im in the straight lane or the right lane. as im driving, ahead of me i see this kia sportage inch out of a parking lot. so i keep driving, and then the worst happens...she pulls out. i slam on my breaks, my pt's back end starts swerving to the right, and before you know it, i slam right into her....i shut my car off, get out and start swearing at this lady "you didn't f***ing see me????!!!!" she was like in her 40's and she was like no i didnt! i call 911 and she calls her insurance company (yes we were both not hurt, thank goodness) as im on the phone, i head to the front of my car to look at the damage...my front bumper is cracked, my front pass side fender is scuffed and dented, my rim is chipped, my headlight is cracked, and the fender got pushed back causing the pass side door not to open. you know what? probably thinking about it, i could of screwed up my wheel bearings. ohhh jeezeee anyways, i call my dad, telling him that i was in a car accident (and i really love my car, like i really do) and after i said that i was in a car accident i start tearing up and i say "dad my car! my car man!" hes like "forget the car right now..are you ok?" it was kind of funny, that i told him about my car first before i said anything about being hurt or not. thats how much im in love with my PT. haha. Anyways, the cop finally shows up, he makes out an accident report, and gives the lady a verbal warning saying that she was at fault because i had the right away. phewwww! so i get the most damage...and her damage was losing a hubcap. oh my gosh that made me angry! so after that, i went to our body shop specialist and got an estimate of the damage...$3,000! new bumper, fender, tire, rim, headlight, and a new paint job, so everything matches nicely. my PT will be in the shop for a week, and until then i'll have a rental oh yay. but im glad her insurance is paying every penny of it. but still...my PT doesn't deserve this. (actually any car doesnt need an accident..haha) but i was just very upset about this, and just needed to let it out. thanks for reading, and please respond if you like!

The main thing is your not hurt. I take it the airbag didn't go off? That would have added $1000 to the bill and could have hurt you.

The other lady would have been cited in my county, not just a verbal warning.

It's a good idea to take pictures of the damaged area for future reference. Like when you are trying to sell your car someday and Carfax shows an accident you can show prospective buyers that it wasn't serious. Really, the main thing was nobody got hurt. As much as you love your Cruiser. . .it's just a car. . .

When a lady inchs out of a parking lot, next time slam on your brakes and reverse, you can bet she will be coming out and not see a thing. I am 75 + and think I probably drive worse than she does, God takes care of drunks and old men. look out for us to== Andy

Sometimes you wish you were ok but the car was totaled so you could just get another one when its all said n done... Sorry to hear about your accident, Ive been in a minor fender bender in my PT and I made the young girl cry because I went off on her at the time...

Tara, glad only the PT was hurt!! You sound like a young lady who got in a bad situation. Just think had it been another car other than the the PT,you might not have been that lucky. Glad you weren't hurt.

accidents are never fun....they cause alot of stress and money.....thats why I drive a 92 500$ corolla in the winter...and park the pt until the roads are at least safer...

thank you to all that have responded (well so far) yes i know my safety was my main concern, but the first thing i thought of was my PT. haha. the airbags didn't go off which was good, because i could of really gotten hurt. unfortunately, i don't have another car to drive in the winter nor do i have a garage to even park my PT. so this is my all year around car. Today when i was out driving, i made sure i drove extra slow and cautious because your right, accidents are no fun at all, and i really don't want to be in another one again

i didnt have my lights on, because it was very bright outside. it was still in the afternoon. now, if it was dark, rainy or snowy, then my lights would have been on, but it was still early. and yea...she only got a verbal warning for not granting me the right of way as she was pulling out of a private driveway. heh..thats what the police report says
