Default Special Insurance

Do those of you who have flames, graphics and special paint jobs, did you have to get any type of special insurance coverage or is there any extra coverage available in case of an accident?? Thanks!!

If you paid a lot more for any addition/modification to your PT and you want to have it covered in case of theft, vandalism or fire then you should contact your insurance company and ask about special coverage. Usually it's a very minor ($10 a year) to cover most things unless of course you've spent $10,000 on a new stereo system or 25K on a special paint job.

I have the same insurance for my PT and the wife's KIA. I thought highly of my Vette and went to American Collectors Insurance so I would be fully covered on what I thought would be a reasonable amount if anything happened to it. Even Hartford wanted too much for the Vette even though they have great prices for the other cars.

Cool Re: Special Insurance

I'm ex-Military, and have insurance with USAA in San Antonio, TX. They told me no extra coverage required (for 12K in mods here). Just have lots of pictures, and receipts.

I also am ex military (10 years) and checked with them, you must be either active or retired not just ex to get a policy.

Cool Re: Special Insurance

Hooligan,
I'm "ex-" now!
But was active duty when I first started with USAA - probably late 1970s...

Just clarifying the statement. I would have saved a bunch if I would have been eligible for it.

Hope this isn't too far off topic but I read a newspaper article recently that said that if you have engine mods that improve performance over factory equipment (and haven't reported it to your insurer I assume,) that they can cancel your coverage. Of course they wouldn't know what you've got under the hood unless you had to file a claim, which would be a bad time to find your coverage cancelled. Has anyone had any experience with this? I'd hate to add an air intake or something that would do little to enhance performance and then find my coverage cancelled because of it just when I needed it most. But, my experience with home owners insurance suggests that if they can get out of paying a claim they will.
