Default Future PT owner

Hello from Maine.. I have the PT bug,, and will be looking at a 03 Touring ,asking price $6987.00 59000 miles.... IYO good or bad,,,??? KBB price is OK.
and I ill look at a 07 Opel Color.. Touring w.31000 miles,their asking price is $8999.00 ,,
Pros and Cons on ANY PT would be a help...... I do not need HIGH proformance,, so the Turbo is on the bottom of the list....
Room? Im 6ft 3" 220 lbs.. is this roomy ??? never test road one yet.. as Im just recovering from surgery.. and the weather sucks LOL......
THANKYOUfor you time and HELP!!

Rich,

Welcome to the forum (almost). My opinion, don't buy it until you can get in it and test drive it. See if it fits you and your driving style. Ask for records (if they have any) of what's been done maintenance wise. It's a bad economy and getting worse, whatever they are asking offer less and if they say no, tell them your gonna look around.

Welcome Radco:
well for ME for the $2 grand diff Id for sure go newer Im not 100% but I think some things were updated since the 03.
The 03 with 60,000 on it will be ready for several maintenance items and I guess the 07 will as well but at half the millage and not a ton of cash difference I d go newer.
Im no ware close to 6'3 but at 5"11 and 200 there is no problem getting in and out the seats feel good to me.
A few thing to consider---- your gas millage should be between 22-27 I know some guys say they get close to 40 mpg but mine stays right at 21 and I drive almost all highway
The car is way cool looking and handles pretty good and you can do a bunch of really coool things to it
at around 100,000 you will need a timing belt and all the stuff that goes with it ---water pump tensioner maybe oil pump that is like $1000 the wheel bearing have a record of dying way earlier than they should but all in all the car is pretty solid
Im sure there will be tons of others with other ideas but if that is what you want go and get you some

Radco, hope to see you here for good in a few days. IMHO the best bet is the 2007 as far as newness, and as has been posted above it will be later when the replacement parts need to be done. Be sure to ask if either of them have been a rental car. There is some discussion on here whether or not rental cars will carry the Lifetime Warranty or not. Get it in writing.

The PT's come in three different models, Base, Touring and Limited plus Turbo, the Base is the least expensive etc. each of the models offer upgrades. I'd check the Blue Book for prices. Their Touring w.31000 miles, their asking price is $8999.00 for instance I's offer $2,000 less because you can always increase your offer, but once offered you can't reduce the offer. Don't fall in love with either as you can walk.

As far as the back and how it will fit, I have had 3 open & 5 arthroscopic back surgeries and the PT's we have had (3 including this one) have been the best for me. I am 5'6" and weigh 230 have had no problems.

Cool Re: Future PT owner

Welcome Radco!
For the difference, I'd go for the 2007!
The 2003 seems really overpriced for the mileage. And, at 60K you would be near some more expensive service intervals.
Now, I'm only 5' 9 1/2 at 200# - but plenty of room for me. The interior for the hatch back (Touring) is nearly tops in its class.
**But, with your height, DO NOT GET A Vert! You'd have neck problems too!

Oh! ....and mileage. Manual or auto tranny?
I've got the 2006 na Touring, with a 5-speed manual tranny (soonercruiser). Now with the stock air box, the engine is a little starved for air...albeit quieter. I put in an AirRaid aftermarket air intake system - and it really opens up the breathing for a quicker pedal response....and a nice growl!
I get around 23-24 around OKCity...and have gotten up to 29 on highway trips....and according to some experts, the engine is barely broken-in at 32K.

Thanks for the replies,, The mileage is high on the 03 and from what you all told me too close to maintenance issues,,, The PT Tour 07 is looking better,, and in my search I ve seen some dealer 2+K$ over book,, In this economy they are nuts.. Plus Im CHEAP LOL........Rich
