Default Oil Consumption Problems?

I'm thinking about buying my daughter a used PT Cruiser. I have read about excessive oil consumption with older PT cruisers at:
PT Cruiser Service Problems Full Story
Does anybody know if this issue has been corrected with the newer models (ie: 2006) ?
Any clarifications or recommendations will be appreciated.

Nobody here has really been complaining about oil consumption. The main complaint is about fuel mileage. It seems to vary quite a bit between years and owners. Other things that seem to pop up are front wheel bearing and bushings, sensor failure and weak transaxles.

Thanks Crewzin,

Which years would you recommend for better mileage and/or higher reliability?

BTW Love the flames!

Thanks. Sorry, they seem all to be the same except the newer the less problems but we've even seen as new as 06 with small things but for your daughter, if you have to go used, I'd go with and 06 or 07 and if you think she will keep it a number of years, go for a good warranty for the power train.

On mileage, there doesn't seem to be something you can pinpoint to say why some are getting low mileage and some up in the high 20's. You can't really see how someone drives when they complain about poor mileage so it could very well be the human factor.

I brought an 2007 touring model about a year and just love it, one thing I complained about was the gas mileage but to improve that a month ago I changed the spark plugs and wires also went with royal purple oil and my mpg greatly improved. Other than that no problems at all

Cool Re: Oil Consumption Problems?

Yah!
That link you provided was just one person's post on a problem.
Not seen anything on excess oil consumption on the 4 PT sites I follow.
