My wife has a 2004 HO GT PT cruiser. It's factory battery started to fail the
other day so I replaced it with a nice AC Delco battery. I also braised on a new negative battery terminal connector to hopefully cure the bad corrosion design flaw with the poor factory connector. All is working fine except the 6-cd player now not working. The CD player makes mechanical sounds when you turn on the car but it is not accessing or ejecting the CDs as it should. The Radio is working fine. Perhaps the car lost some security or init code(s) with the battery disconnected for a few hours? Anybody know something here? |

We just had the same problem, the factory battery died, the new battery was installed and the radio is fine, but the 6 CD unit is totally nonresponsive... it clucks like there is life, but the buttons get nothing... did you ever solve your problem?

The radio works fine but there is no CD player to select. I suspect some initialization was lost in disconnecting the battery. The ebay listing seems to indicate it needs to be setup-initialized right.

This listing ...
CHRYSLER DODGE 02-07 FACTORY 6 DISC STEREO CD PLAYER:eBay Motors (item 310156196575 end time Aug-17-09 16:17:06 PDT) Says ..... This model radio may need to be programmed at the dealer for it work properly. The dealership will actually program the radio to the vehicle so they can communicate together. The estimated cost to program one of the radio to your vehicles is $45.00 but check with your local dealer for a quote. We do NOT accept returns on radios for this PURPOSE so be sure to research before buying. |

Thanks for that bit of info, it's better than the $350.00 I was being quoted to rip it out and order a new one from a non-dealership car audio facility. Guess I'm off to the dealership to rant and rave for a while.

I tried calling a service rep at Huntington Beach Chrysler and he said he had never heard of programming needed. He encouraged me to bring it in, I asked if you don't know of it how can you fix it? He said they will plug it in to a diagnosing computer and it should give a failure code. Then they can look up how to fix it via the code.
OK I so I don't like this because no one can tell me if there are setup codes to be poked in or not. It's open ended at the dealership and to me that is wallet risky. I tried calling the sound place on ebay that is selling these Chrysler units but both their sales and customer service lines remain to be busy and they take a message and then I suspect don't call you back anytime soon. I hate the service rep and service tech thing with the dealerships. The Rep gets a commission and so he just wants to pad the bill. The tech gets paid by the job so he is in a hurry and can leave things disconnected etc etc. One should be able to pull a battery and get their CD player to work again without getting the dealership in on it. But not so with Chrysler here I think. |

Try pulling the fuse for the radio and reset it. Sometimes weird things happen when batteries are replaced.

Wow... you just summed up why I hate the Dealership so much... their lack of honesty has kept me from ever going back, I feel like I've been had every time I go in.
But it looks like some proprietary voodoo that the morons built into the onboard computer to guarantee a trip to the swines... since my mechanic and his audio guy had NEVER heard of this fault before. Crap. There goes my Saturday. |

Cool, that's a User doable fix... I'll get back to you. Thanks.
