Default Newbie needs some advice on PT purchase!

I all, glad to be a member of the PT forum. I have come over from the Corvette Forum and have always loved PT Cruisers. Thinking about buying a Cruiser for a every day/work car and I have a couple questions:

1. How does this deal sound to you, a 2008 Limited auto with 7000 miles for $9995. Ivory

2. What is the best and most cost effective way to increase the mpg? The display on the dash was saying an average of 22.3 mpg and that just isn't enough. My crap van I drive now gets 26-30 mpg but it is now broke down setting at a police station 60 miles from home. My Corvette gets an average of 26-28 and it has 400 HP.

3. What kind of mileage are you getting?

I really appreciate any help or advice you might have because I don't think this deal will last long. Jim

Hello and Welcome!

That doesn't sound like too bad of a deal for only 7k Miles, but just make sure you do your homework with a Carfax report. (I'm sure you knew that!) Anyhow, Check Autotrader.com to see what other PT'S are in the area and what they have to offer. Hey, you never know what you'll find. As for the Gas Mileage, PT's arn't known for good gas mileage, it's not terrible but it's not the highest either. As we all know the best way, other then some type of Mod, is just the regular scheduled Matinence and such.

As you can see I drive a 06 PT Convert. If anything I'd say def go w/ an 06 and up, though there are many under 06's out there that I'm sure are great too. (06 and up is only my personal Prefrence/opinion).

Be sure to post pics when you do decide on one and Good luck with it :-) I know you'll love it!!!!!

City driving I usually get 19-21, highway I have gotten as much as 31, only once, usually 25-27 MPG. For a PT that is pretty good. It sounds like that is a good price for a 2008, it must be a basic model with no tint etc.

Welcome.
That sounds cheap for a limited. A limited should have alloy wheels, remote entry.
Mileage sounds right. I record every fillup and I am at 73,000+ miles and average over 25 over all those miles, but I encounter very little traffic, and most don't get as high as I do.
Mileage tips? Keep tires inflated - I go 2-3 PSI above door sticker.
Accelerate slowly.
Get in top gear and try to stay there.
When you see a red light ahead, take your foot off the gas.

It is a limited, has all the goodies tint, alloys, CD, satellite radio, auto. I could live with 25-27 mpg. I drive 40 miles one way to work through the country. I am normally driving between 65-80 mph that will hurt the mpg. When I slow up it really helps. I keep my tires really hard also.

Cool Re: Newbie needs some advice on PT purchase!

My guess is that since it's an auto, you'll only get around 25mpg.
The 22.3mpg on the dash readout is just what it guesses that it had been getting lately; probably short driving trips around town - you know test drives from the lot!
Actually at 7K, the engine isn't even broken in well. It should get better mileage once you hit around 20K.
If it still has the stock air box and OEM filter, you can probably improve on the mileage "some".

Crane plug wires and platinum plugs would by for me the most increase in MPG.

if you really have to have higher MPG buy something else--- i know some get pretty good but my 06 non turbo will give you at best 23 and that is right at 80 miles one way and 80 mile ( totaly is 175 per day but 160 is interstate)the other way on the highway running at the speed limit or just a tad above
so it is what it is a cool looking car that really needed to be upgraded from chrysler but they never did--so much potential in our little lady and so little respect

I was looking at a new and dare I say it on this forum HHR. Rated at 30 hwy. I just want something that gets 30 mph that I can hull a 2x4 in once in a while. By the way I think the PT looks better than an HHR.
