Default Locking glove box and ham radio question

We recently bought my wife a '07 PT Cruiser. She was wondering if any PT Cruisers came with a locking glove box.
Was a locking glove box a option?
Can a glove box door be bought for it?

Has anyone ever installed a ham radio in their PT?
I wonder if there are any worries about the radio transmitter
interfering with the PT computer?
I'm planning to install the radio so the main transmitter is
in the rear of the PT and the antenna is mounted on the
edge or the rear hatch.

All I can tell you is that my 2001 Limited Edition came with a locking glove box.

It might be that yours is a base model without the "extras" or it might have been one of the cost saving measures that Chrysler implemented as the years went by. I also have a passenger door outside lock, all the buttons on the inside light up at night, a vanity cover on the engine and a rear cargo net. That's some of the things that were deleted or made options later on.

Our 2008 Touring has NO locking glove compartment. Our 2006 Limited did!!! Probably would have to change the whole compartment lid.

My 2003 is a base model, I only ordered it with three options -

Cruise control, 4 speed automatic w/overdrive, Tinted windows. Hell it came with pretty much everything else I needed (6 speaker cd stereo, A/C, p/w, p/DL, p/mir, rear defrost, rear wiper).

Part of the base package included the locking glove box. Which I've used to protect my Sirius receiver many times at the Airport.

I noticed on the 2006 refresh that Chrysler took away a TON of standard features on the base PT's. It became a real stripper version.

I'd try to look for a 2006 and up junkyard wreck - see if you can remove the GB door (as long as it's a color match) and you should be good to go.

Here is a website I've used in the past:

Used Auto Parts | Used Car Parts

You submit your request to nationwide junk yards and they can quote a price to you for the parts you need. Find out the part number (if you can) for the GB door you want and ask for that part number. It should avoid confusion.

Hope the website helps.

Tom

Locking glove box. That's funny. Take all of 30 seconds to get into it.

Yeah good point...

It's more sort of an "out of sight, out of mind" tool than anything else.

Hiding it in the glove box would be a good thing. I wouldn't worry about it locking, though. Wouldn't you have to mount a big antenna on the car?

MG, he sure would, but with a little ingenuity he could disguise it as a rear wing.

all i will say is IF some one wants in they will get in
and putting a lock on it will some times make it more interesting to see what they have all locked up in there---and then they will just bust it up and you get to fix a bigger mess
