Default 60k mile maintanance, what is it?

Hello,

Took my PT to the dealer today, and they said that i should get the 60,000 mile maintenance done... at a cost of $1500! My question is, what is the 60k maintenance and is this a reasonable price?

thanks

It would be in your book. The dealer is trying to get you to pay for services you probably don't even need. Because I changed the plugs the 60k on my wife's '04 was $100+. Most of it is visual inspection. Also at 60k you should get a full tranny flush if you have an automatic tranny. Then alternate every 30k with a drain and fill and then a full tranny flush.

Ask the dealer to show you a gun - if he's going to rob you, should at least see a gun....
I'd replace wires and plugs (and don't use stock wires, get some good ones)and have the tranny flushed.
That's it. Flush should be around $200. Plugs & wires run close to $100 for good parts, and there's labor to put them in.
Curious - ask the dealer what they'll do for $1,500 !!!!!!
Brakes, oil change, etc., are normal wear items and not what I'd think of at a set mileage.
Maybe flush your radiator? Be sure they used distilled water.

Dealerships are notorious for stuff like that. It is always inspect this, that or the other thing. They charge you the overly expensive dealer labor rate to look at something.

According to the service manual.
Oil Change
Inspect Brakes
Air Filter
Plugs and Wires
Inspect tie rod ends and boot seals
Inspect and if necessary replace the PCV Valve
Inspect and if necessary replace the PCV make-up air filter
Adjust generator belt
Change auto trans fluid and filter
Coolant flush depending on the model

So, all that really needs to be done is Air Filter, Oil Change, Plugs + wires, coolant flush (if necessary) and a transmission service.

I change my air filter ever year regardless of mileage since its cheap and takes 5 minutes. Oil change is only necessary if you are due for one at that time anyway. The PCV valve is cheap. They said mine was going and it cost like $35.00 installed to replace, so I agreed.

Yeah i had a feeling it was a scam... since he did not really seem to know what was actually involved with the 60k maintenance! also the transmission is being replaced, presumably with new fluid, so there is no flushing involved!

Perhaps when i go in for the repairs he will pull a gun on me at that point... good thing i do not carry large amounts of cash!

@chase... thanks for looking that up for me! as i said i am getting a new tranny, water pump, motor mounts, and possibly new power steering pump under warranty... so everything is going to be getting new fluids anyways! The rear brakes are also going to be done... but that cost is NOT included in the 60k service, you would think they would throw in a couple brake pads for my $1500 bones!!!
