I searched around and came up with a couple of suggestions.
The fault could be a clogged Catalytic Converter (if you have one in your country). You sound like your from out of the U.S. It could also be a faulty Camshaft or Crankshaft sensor. Lastly, it could be the SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer Module). If the 'chip' in the key quits sending its signature to the security module, the engine will be cut off. Try using your secondary key for a while to see if it resolves the problem.

Did some searching and here's a suggestion. You have a fuse box in the engine compartment that looks like the picture below, only turned 180 degrees.
The "E" relay is called the ASD relay. Take out the ASD relay and replace it with the horn relay letter "A" and see if you get your gears back. ![]() If that doesn't work, did you get an engine light when it went into first gear? If so, we'll need the code for further diagnosis.

No, not from me, sorry. Unless someone else comes along, looks like you might have too find a dealer or mechanic with a scanner to see if they can pinpoint the exact problem.
