My experience with my 06 PT cruiser has been awful. I have spent 3400 in repairs for overheating since I got the car in 06. I also spent 400 to replace fuel sensors about three months ago. In this case, My car lost power while on the freeway and I was stuck on the freeway.

Thank God for AAA membership. Also recently the car overheated and was undrivable on the way home after it had been repaired for overheating. Another call to AAA to tow it back to the shop.

The shop, a very competent shop (Firestone Auto) spent four days sorting out the overheating problem on the car. The car has less than 70k on it. The first overheating problem occurred at 39k miles and cost me 2600 as the car was just out of warranty.

I would suggest that you don't waste your money on a PT cruiser. In my opinion the car is a total piece of crap reliability wise. Good luck no matter what your decision is. Make sure you have a AAA membership and a large savings fund for unscheduled repairs if you choose to get this car.

Don't blame a car if you don't know anything about them. You probably just got ripped off for $3400 for not knowing and for taking it to a tire place for repairs....BTW, I heard a case like that a few days ago..or probably was you Next time take it to a dealer or go in the forums and try fix it yourself

Remind me to stay away from Firestoned, sounds more like thieves than a competant shop!

I'm sorry about your experience with the PT but you must remember, you bought a used vehicle with probably no maintenance history and no idea how the first or second owner treated the car in it's first 5 years of ownership. Then, as XtrmDC2 said, you took it to a tire store for maintenance. Do you understand that the mechanics at these types of stores work on commission; the more parts they sell and time they take to fix a vehicle, the more money they make. Yes, the dealer might be more expensive because of the hourly rate, and some will throw parts at a problem rather than proper diagnostic, but still better than a place that services 10,000 types of different vehicles and has no idea of the particulars of a certain type or brand. The PT has certain quirks and a particular list to go down when it's overheating, starting with the fan motor. Most 2001 and 2002 PT's are going for $3400 if not less. Nobody should pay that much for repairs unless their replacing the entire engine and even then, it's high.
