Cool HID Update

For those considering High Intensity Discharge Headlights (HID) you will come to find out that they say that the lights are for off road use only. but i recently found out that not all of them are illegal. 10,000k and under are legal if aligned correctly. go to a mechanics any will do that offer the NYS or any state that tests the headlight alignment for traffic safety. When they pass it that business will give you a Certified Certificate saying that the lights are legal and road safe. Anything above 10,000k Cannot pass the safety law because of the Color depth and the brightness to other drivers so anything above 10,000k is not street legal. Thanks for your time in reading this.

10K is very high in temperature in my opinion. I really doubt it is legal for road use.

For better output, to stay legal and to be more on the white side of the spectrum (yes, bluish lights are pretty annoying), you should choose something between 4700-6000k. 5000k is the best.

Even at 6000k you can clearly see a blue tint so imagine at 10k...

Cool Re: HID Update

some differences between why 12k and up is illegal while others are not

1. Bulb size. 4.7k-10k are standard HID size 12k-30k are slightly bigger and give more widespread and out of control light conditions. tis why the 12k+ lights are illegal.

2. Color- Yes, while the 4.7k-6k have little or no color tint and brighter than the color tinted lights they dont have out of control lighting. 8k and 10k have some color to them 10k being a deeper color than the 8k. and the 12k and above go deeper into color and cause drivers to either 1. be blinded or 2. be distracted by them. thus the 4.7k-10k are legal if aligned correctly.

I have explained what i found to be true by technicians and current PT Cruiser drivers with HID Headlights (myself included) Hope this helps some people understand better.

also, the higher the K is the more in depth the color will be. 30k being the darkest color possible.
