............WOW, i have to say that is just crazy. whoever you took your car to, mechanics wise, suck. because usually they are supposed to check the WHOLE car for any problems when you take it in for any problem. they didnt do that. and they charged you $7000 for a new PT Engine? i only paid 4500 for my PT GT Engine and that includes Labor on my 01 PT. im sorry to say but i think they ripped you off big time!!!

Is your PT Running good now?

Glad you still love it, most of us do.

Everything you mentioned, we've seen it here before. The worst was the new engine but, and don't get too mad, that was partially your fault.

It's an aluminum head, and even though you didn't know that, an overheating engine should be stopped at once. Either let it cool down and try and limp home or find the closest repair shop and find out why. How you went a whole week after the overheating before it was diagnosed to have a melted cylinder is a puzzle. It was awfully expensive too.

The lines that were rubbing under the tranny are on a recall and a trip to the dealer at any time before the problem arose would have signaled the dealer to take a look at it. A private mechanic wouldn't have known about it but I believe a good one can somehow check to see if all recalls have been performed. In a few cases, those lines rubbing have caused fires, that's why the recall.

The suspension arms shouldn't be shot, just the bushings. A dealer or any mechanic that doesn't want to do the work will just replace the whole arm with new bushings instead of rebuilding the arm(s). $1000 is way to much to pay for the work.

Just go back to the dealer and tell him that the car was recalled for those wires hitting the tranny and you want your money back. if they give you trouble tell the better business bureau.

Here's an older thread to read. See if it matches what happened to yours.

On a side note, I did get a sound piece of advice from a co-worker that has an '03 Cruiser that his wife drives... "Be careful of tire debris"

He told me he was on the Interstate a few years ago and an 18 wheeler in front of him lost a tire and he couldn't avoid the debris. He said it broke the oil pan and by the time he got the oil warning light the engine was toast.

When my fog lights wouldn't turn off, I pulled the fog light fuse. I don't know if that's good or not, but it solved my problem, or course I have not fog lights, but we don't get much fog round here.
