Default AUTOMATIC TRANS SERVICE RECOMENDATION::

Ok My PT has 69500miles... The trans was serviced-filter changed at 32K miles.... When should this be done again? It is operating fine>> I am not looking for problems... The dealer wants to do it now... I am afraid that the tech may screw something up// thought suggestions... or is it a good idea? ( I know its been posted before-but ) Thanks MJB

You say it was serviced. Was the pan dropped, filter changed and only about 4 Qts added? The whole system holds about 16 Qts and needs to be flushed to change the whole thing. A lot more expensive so it's up to you. Changing it just the way your doing it (4 Qts) is better than nothing so if you don't want to put out the extra, keep up the smaller changes.

Wait for other responses to get more opinions.

Sounds like they dropped the pan and filled up with fluid. I would get a tranny flush - which changes all the fluid - dumping the pan only changes less than half the fluid.
I had it done at my mechanic (requires a machine to do the flush) and ran about $200.

Seeing that you have this question in your mind, I would recommend that you go ahead and do a flush & drain. Yes, I know it is expensive, but it would give you peace of mind.

That said, I just looked in my 2008 Service Manual Schedule "A" which I feel I belong and it says, "No change necessary". There is NO LISTING for Schedule A, but it states "if any of the 10 conditions listed apply to you, it is a Schedule B".
Conditions are:
Day & night temperatures are below 32 F.
Stop and go driving.
Extensive engine idling.
Driving in dusty conditions
Short trips of less than 10 miles.
More than 50% of driving is at sustained high speeds during hot weather, above 90F.
Trailer towing.
Taxi, police or delivery service (commercial service ).
Off-road or desert operation.
If equipped for and operation with E-85 (ethanol) fuel.

That's kinda what I am looking for as well... bought my auto non-turbo PT 3 months ago at 45k and just had my 48k service... (synthetic oil and rotation)

As I recall the owner's manual says tranny service at 60k but I may be mistaken. I've been reading on these forums that most people are saying 50k so it has me thinking about getting it serviced now.

I have no idea of the prior maintenance on the vehicle so peace of mind would probably do me a lot of good. The car has been flawless over the last 3500 miles but still....

Every 30k alternate between a drain and fill and a full tranny flush.
