Cool no problem just want everyones opinion

If Chrysler kept the PT Cruiser going, what mods do you think would boost sales?

i think Projector HID Headlights would boost sales about 10%-15%. Just because a lot of people like them. at least in NY they do.

Put the Hemi in it.

For the most part, it they just tweaked the engine and gave it a 5 speed auto trans so the gas mileage would be selling factor, they could sell a million more of them.

They need to address the known problems first, such as the overheating problem, the foglights staying on, and that sort of thing.

Speaking of MPG, what is the expected MPG for the 01? I was appalled at the low MPG I was getting on my trip from Seattle to Chicago, it was averaging 16-17 MPG, requiring a pit stop about every 2 hours, and that was when gas was over $4 per gallon! I will confess that I was averaging 80-90 mph on the open stretches of freeway, though. My brother said that is what fried my engine, that PT Cruisers aren't meant to be driven that fast for extended periods.

I make 4 to 5 trips a year up to Virginia to see my grandkids. When we take the cruiser ( or my wife's car for that matter) I'm traveling 80+ for 11 1/2 hours only stopping for gas, a pit stop and some goodies to snack on. PT never complained except when the Camshaft sensor wires broke loose and burnt out. The engine never ran better and I'm coming up to 100K.

Yea, the gas mileage really dives at those speeds. I was getting the same as you but I have taken trips where I actually tried to squeeze every mile per gallon out of it and got up to 27mpg but you gotta drive like a little ole lady and that ain't for me. when I'm on the open road.

I recently drove a 250 mile round trip to Baltimore and clocked the mileage. Mostly highway brought in 28.7 mpg.

I got over 25 mpg on our trip to Shipshewana and I drove about 67 - 68 constant over 2.5 days. It can be done, without driving "like a lil old lady". The best was over 31 mpg.

Cool Re: no problem just want everyones opinion

the Hemi Engine would be less MPG's. but i agree switch to a 5 spd auto or an EctoTech Engine and maybe get the MPG into the 30-40MPG Range. I bought a 2nd PT Cruiser, 2001, with 40k miles and my friend did some type of upgrade to the Cruisers Computer so it gets 32MPG highway if i travel no higher than 55mph. any higher an it drops to about 22-24. look into it i think there is an upgrade to get more mpg. but i think the projectors would be great add-on as well.

My "new" rebuilt engine has 26 miles on it now, so I have to drive like a little ole lady for another 474 miles until it reaches 500 miles. Not so bad tootling around town, but I cannot imagine driving from Chicago to Seattle at 55MPH, which I will be doing later on this summer. Hopefully, I will get enough miles on it by then so that I can go fast.

So how do I go about upgrading the computer so that I can get more MPG?
