Thumbs down Did you know that the PT Cruiser is a foreign car?

When I bought my PT Cruiser, I thought I was buying an American made car.

With all the talk of Chrysler's problems, I found out that the PT Cruiser was manufactured at Toluca Car Assembly in Toluca, Mexico by non United Auto Workers Union employees.

I read that on March 8, 2006, Daimler Chrysler announced that it had built 1,000,000 PT Cruisers at the Toluca plant since February 14, 2000.

I still love my PT Cruiser, but am disappointed to know that I bought a foreign, non union made, car that was sold under the USA flag as a USA manufacturer.

With the PT Cruiser being discontinued, there will be no loss of American jobs.

Fred,

Most of knew that because we talked about it when they first came out. Hard to find any car that's all American. My Corvette, my old Harley Davidson, might have been made here but got knows what percentage of foreign parts are in those American classics. Lots of what you might have thought to be "US" built cars were actually built in either Mexico or Canada.

I discovered that when I was looking up the recalls. My serial number showed it built in Mexico.

Like when I bought my '01 Toyota Tacoma, I thought I was buying a Japanese car, but it was actually built here in the US factory.

But read the fine print gang: 66% of the PT(on my window sticker) is made in the USA--its assembled in Mexico but engine-trans & whatever makes 66% is USA!! not bad because my brother just bought a Dodge Caliber made in Bellevidere,ILL (USA) same USA66%- content--- what the difference-just #'s!

UAW is the reason GM and Chrysler are in the position they are in... their benefits package not to mention salaries are just a bit absurd.
