On my drive from Seattle to Chicago last fall, I averaged 16-17mpg driving an average of 80-90mph.

On my drive from Chicago to Seattle this past week, I averaged 25-26 mpg at 60-65mph, the lowest at 21 mpg during a stretch where I was averaging 70-75mph, the highest at 29mpg during a stretch where I was averaging 50-60mph.

Red face Re: What's the best MPG can the PT Cruiser get?

The soonercruiser is an 2006 NA 5-Speed, and I have been able to push it to 30mpg on trips with the a/c off. (going around 65mph)

Tried the same with the 2006 GT auto tranny yesterday, and was "just" able to get 24mpg on the highway

The 5-Speed standard and the non-turbo really make a big difference. Now, mind you I was having to keep up with the gang at 75mph with the GT. I'd much rather go no faster than 65....just for the fuel conservation.

i have a serious lead foot so little red envelope is auto only gets about 16 - 18 mpg in the city suburbs at about 45 - 55 mph. luckily i moved closer to a freeway so now he gets about 18 - 20 mpg at 70 - 80 mph. my parents tell me i can get about 23 mpg on the freeway when they were driving him.

to keep down on the gas costs, i noticed most of my trips were out to get food so i stay in more to eat or i hit places on the way home. when i need to a certain area i do all of my errands there and try to walk from place to place if the distance isnt too far.

im going to go a little off topic, but for example, one of the shopping plazas here has a grocery store, 2 banks, dentist office, many restaurants, 2 beauty shops, a gym, & a cell phone shop. across the street is another grocery store, a gas station, longs, movie rental place, more restaurants, dry cleaner and on the other 2 are another cell phone shop, clothing alterations, & dept store, 2 drug stores, a kragen and more restaurants. all within a walking distance. sometimes i do get lazy so i hit the 2 sides to my right, flip a u-ey and hit the other 2 sides on the left before i go home. so i go in a giant circle. on the other side of the freeway (about the same distance as the other shopping area) is a community college and they are putting up new library and there are 2 shopping plazas and a little farther up the street are 2 hospitals.

i dont know if this is an option for you, but i walk to a lot of places from home too. just around the corner from me is a hardware store, many fast food shops, starbucks, gamestop, ups store, and few other places. i work in a grocery store so i bring groceries home on the way and there is a bank on the way home from work.

little red envelope is my first vehicle and i at first was discouraged by the gas mileage which is one of the reasons why i decided to move. i dont know if you are speed racer though, but if you are and are worried about spending a lot on gas, walking serious will become your best friend. i hated it at first but when i started this routine i realized that i only had to fill up only once a week or week and 1/2, as opposed to 2 times a week. i have better things to spend an extra 40 bucks on a week than gas and i get the exercise needed since probably wouldnt do it if i didnt save the money.

sorry about the winded reply, just hope it helps.

Good on you for walking. It was 114F here today. Not good walking weather.

I'm nowhere near being a cold-blooded reptilian, also. I'm a little girl when it gets in the 50s or lower, and little brat when it's in the 90s

hmmm, i updated my computer in my PT and changed the gear shift ratios and im getting 30 city and 36 highway. try doing that to increase MPG like i did cuz it worked. also have Michellin Hydroedge Tires so it adds like 2MPG to it.

How did you do this? And are you using the car's mileage readout or are you calculating yourself?

Smile Re: What's the best MPG can the PT Cruiser get?

i reset the cars mileage thing. not the one where it shows the total number of miles but the other one where is shows how many miles you traveled so far but you have to reset it at fill ups. but i did a few tests and at fill ups between 12.6-13.1 gallons i get about 390 miles city driving and about 470 miles highway driving. so i figured 390 divided by 13 is 30MPG and 470 dived by 13 is 36MPG. Average MPG in city and highway is about 32-34MPG. So, that how i figured it out.simple math is all. but i wish autozone had a guage where it tells you what your instant MPG is while your driving. but whatever. Anyone have any questions e-mail me... spiritofvengence@ymail.com

Figure your mileage with pencil and paper and get back to us. The mileage "thing" isn't that accurate. Or start using a mileage logger FUELLY for instance, no guessing with that.
