Well, after being on the the waiting list in 2001 for a PT and giving up and getting a Focus Wagon , I finally have a Cruiser. I got a 2006 Signature Touring Edition. It only had 36,000 miles and was well taken care of so I'm happy I've been reading here a lot the past few days and have gotten a lot of great ideas for chrome. I've also learned that I need to change the spark plugs.... Heres a few pics. If you have any ideas of improvements please let me know. Is there any production numbers for the signature edition? I can't find too much on the net about them...

Welcome to the forums and grats on the PT.

The tranny is a weak link... I'd find out if it's ever been serviced. I recently bought mine at 45k and had the tranny professionally flushed for $150... with no records I assumed it had never been done.

I also changed the plugs and wires (anything is better than the OEM) and I'm glad I did because it still had the originals. I went with Duralast wires from Advance Auto and Bosch Platinum +4 plugs.

I just checked the Bosch Plugs online and it says "Gap is not adjustable". Is this correct?

Yep... pre-gapped at .040 is what you are looking for.

It originally was .050 per Chrysler but has since been changed to .040 ...

Welcome to the forum. Nic clean lookng PT. Maybe I missed something but if you think you need to change the plugs, do the plug wires also. If they are stock, they won't last very long and as long as you have to do the work to get to the plugs, your already there to do the wires. If you've been reading the forum then you know we recommend that you use Dilectric grease on the plug wires and Anti-seize on the threads of the plugs.

Welcome. That's a nice looking PT. Be glad you waited. I have an 01 and its just the little differences that I like about the later models better.

The bumpers come to mind... the early models are horrible looking.

*Early Chrysler design meeting*

"Oh yes, lets put black bumpers on all PT cruisers, regardless of color"

"That's a great idea!"

I also like the fact my front grill stops at the bumper... extending all the way to the bottom was another brilliant idea.

Yep that pretty much covers it. I do like the center bezel in the earlier models better. And I would have waited for the GT. But I like our 01 just wish the 5 speed had a little more umph. Not knocking the auto but they just don't feel responsive.

Guys, lets not turn this into a model bashing contest because there's just as many UGLY features on the new models. Your squarish bumpers, missing front lower grill, headrests from the future, pop-out center dash and the towel bar come to mind but we won't mention them. Chrysler sold over a million before they changed the style. Maybe is was the change that started the slip in sales, who knows. But one thing's for sure, new or old, you can't mistake the PT for anything else. We're all here (hopefully) because of the same thing and we came here to welcome a new member. Lets stick to that.
