Thumbs up Re: fan tests ok not coming on low or high, have new relays!

Yes!

I cut the connectors off of both ends of the harness, the motor side and the car side. The car side was nice and charred and glued into the connector which also had burn marks on it. I cleaned and spliced the wires hooked them together with butt connectors and taped and tubed the whole harness up nice. Put the battery plate and battery back in and fired her up. Turned on the AC, the low speed came right on. Turned off the AC and idled until it got warmed up to half and the high speed came on. Glory!!

I've driven it all day, checked and re checked the high and low speed everytime. And the relay that had the connection bouncing back and forth open and closed stays tight now. I think I got it

It's belongs to my 19 year old daughter. I surprised her and picked her up for work today in her car. She was so excited when she saw her car she came out jumping up and down. Dad fixed it! Made all the frustration, sweat and cuts on my hands worth it all.

I don't know what caused it to burn to begin with. I am thinking (hoping) that it was when the low speed fan motor went out last month. Not sure why the new fan motor worked for a couple weeks, maybe it was still getting some connection. In the end though, it was just too melted to send through any connection.

I am so glad I found this site. Each reply I got helped in some way to narrow it down to where the problem was. THANKS!

A happy DAD makes daughter happy. Congratulations, it just goes to show that maybe the first question may not be the correct question as there could be a couple of answers.

Hi guys, i am new to this site. I was googling fan problems PT Cruiser and ii took me here, glad it did. First, thats great that you finally licked the problem. It seems my wifes 2007 has the same problem, the mechanic(not Chrysler) informed me today that i need a new fan assembly and the cost is $700.00 but Chrysler has them on back order for up to three weeks. So i went on the internet in search of some answers, seems i got them. In your early posts you had said that you bypassed the fan to check if the high and low would come on, how exactly would i do that. I will check the relay to see if it stays closed. If the fan works on both settings with A/C on and the relay doesn't stay closed then i would probably have the same problem as you. I think that a lot of mechanics will just replace and assume that the problem is solved which in your case it wasn't. If someone could give me a quick step-by-step on how to check if the fan works or not it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I did find a place that the wire was flattened inside the flex cover , it was where the wire laid across a hose around the left side of the radiator..Taped up the wires, one was almost worn thru. Wrapped repaired harness with friction tape for protection and secured out of the way..

Is this where your wires were burnt at the bottom near the connector or was it up by the fuse block?
