Default New PT owner in south Wisconsin

Hello all. I'm the new guy. I just purchased a 2002 PT Limited with about 27,000 miles on it. It was a Florida car driven by an old lady that moved up here to live near her kids. I've driven a Jeep Wrangler for the past 3 years and loved it. I will own another someday. Right now it's too expensive for me. I sold it...So now I have a PT.

Anyway....I would like to know the first things that go-to-junk in these cruisers. It came with an extended warranty that is still good to April of next year or 36,000 miles.

My luck is sure to make SOMETHING fail at 37,000 miles. Can anyone guess what it will be??

Thanks for the info

Wow! Nice going on the low mileage Cruiser. You shouldn't have to worry about anything going wrong with that car anytime soon. If it's an automatic, make sure to have the transmission flushed at the required interval. For piece of mind, I would put new plugs and wires on it but that's all it should need for now.

You should be good to go for a while...

Bought mine in March at 45k miles and had the tranny flushed, plugs/wires changed and a rotation along with changing the oil (synthetic)... all for peace of mind. 6000 miles and the car has been great with no issues other than a $25 O2 sensor.

Be warned though, the auto tranny is a weak link on the PT so not servicing it isn't advised. Many reports of premature tranny failures. Timing belt is also a huge costly job, but that's not expected until 80-90k.

Welcome to the Forum, ADR!!!

Look for the "sticky" in the Performance Section of the Forum. It will tell you how to change plugs and wires, get anything except stock wires they are crap and break down quickly.

i dont have a 02 but i have 2 01's, but what i would do is take the car into repair for the mileage service warranty fournd in your PT's manual. i've done that and so far they been good minus a few headache problems. but check out the thread i made to see the problems. For 2001 PT Cruiser Owners is the topic in the general discussions.

Do they salt the roads in the winter there? If so, I would get it undercoated. Also, if the roads are in any condition like the roads in the Chicago area (i.e. like Swiss cheese!), keep an eye on the suspension bushings. Mine broke and cost my many $$$ to replace. As well as the mulit-function switch, keep an eye on that, that is known to go out and leave you with no lights. And the wiring harness, if it's touching the wrong places, it will fizzle and your car will be dead (at least mine died right after I got off the freeway). Watch out for overheating, too. Mine did in the winter when it was below freezing. But you will find that it is a good snow car. Mine did well in Chicago as well as in the WA mountains.

Would that have been a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty?
