I dunno. That price seems a bit high. If you could get it for that price including timing belt and water pump, maybe. I would also have to see a list of what codes it's throwing. It could be a money pit. How close are you to this car? I realize it has a salvage title but it's fully loaded minus the roof rack, has fewer miles and is a year newer. It also sounds like it was well-maintained (something you know nothing about with the car you're looking at). If you're close enough, I would go test drive it and hand him $4000 cash. I bet he takes it.
One other thing, you've researched the fuel mileage of the automatic cars right? I just want to make sure you're not in for a surprise like so many others have been.
