10k kms = 6200 miles. Not a real big deal. The Amsoil I use is rated for 15k miles.

Pennzoil 5W30 full synthetic. (Thought about 10W30 because I live in FL and never see really cold weather) Motorcraft filter.

So 5w30 is the best to use I've seen so far in the summer or warmer weather. Is that good for michigan in the winter or is it best to run something else a little thinner. Its usually anywhere from 0 F to the 30's most of the time. TWRESS

5W 30 is fine to use in Michigan. That's probably has been used in your other cars.

I haven't gotten an oil change on my PT yet, only 1900 miles. However, the first one is free from the dealership. At what point can I switch to a synthetic? And, more importantly, how hard is it to change the oil on these beasts?

I found that 10/30w was better in my truck, she ran better and didn't knock, however that was an old Ford I-6 and definitely not the same as this suped up Singer Sewing machine that's in the PT.

I changed to synthetic on both my PTs at about 500 miles.
To change the oil, you need ramps - the best are "rhino ramps" - they're plastic, but hold over twice what a PT weighs, and have the right angle - the steel ones I had would hit the lower body - too steep an angle.
Once up on the ramps, the filter is right next to the drain plug.
