Hi Bob,

A whole lot depends on the sort of driving you do, if you want better grip or longer lasting tires and what your willing to spend.

The treadwear rating on the sidewall will give you an idea of how long they will last, no matter what brand you chose. a 180 treadwear will give you lots of grip on corners and a softer ride but will only last you a year or two because of the soft compound of the tread. A 420 treadwear should last the average driver about 3 to 4 years but it's a harder compound and harder ride. Your in NY so you definitely want an all-season tire for your snow and wet weather where I only have to look for a good wet weather tire.

Go to a web site like Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels, under tires and plug you size in and see the whole list that will fit you PT. You can vary the list by prices or performance or all season and can look at the information like treadwear and how other people rated that particular tire.

If someone on the forum tells you he likes brand X, it doesn't mean that it will be the right tire. You can look that tire up and check out the information about his/her suggestion but take account for where they live and they type of driving they do.

A more expensive option is to go to smaller wheels - 16 or even 15 and thereby get more sidewall.
You'll have to buy rims, but the tires will be cheaper.
Try Tire Rack and they have "winter options" or something like that - because you need wheels that will clear the GT brake calipers - you can call them and make sure.
If you go that route, they'll send you the tires mounted and balanced ready to mount.

I went with 215/50/17 BFG KDW All season tires, and they ride awesome. Love them.
