If you were looking from the engine bay for the filter you probably won't see it if you don't know exactly where it is. But the filter is easily accessible from the bottom no problems finding it once your under the car next to the drain plug::
|

Don't know if it's the same as the 2.4L gas engine but maybe this will help.
