For GT turbos, particularly those with S1, many have found a smaller gap works better. The 0.040 I know of was from a Tech Service bulletin that revised the 0.050 that was the gap in the manual.
The gap tends to grow with age.

I don't have a turbo, that might be why I was given the .040. Don't they comegapped already? Someone told me I sould get 8mm or 8.5 mm wires when they 7mm in the car. What say U?

The bigger diameter is either fatter copper or fatter insulation, or both. In this case, bigger is better. Do you "need" it? NO. As a rule of thumb, the fatter, the better, but quality does enter into it, so a very good brand smaller wire could be better than a cheap bigger wire - depends on the insulation.

If there are specs, look for the lowest ohms/foot.

Spark plugs sometimes come pre-gapped, and sometimes even correctly. It always pays to check. Strictly speaking, all spark plugs do come pre-gapped. In a recent set of four Autolite double iridium plugs, the pre-gap ranged from .035 to .058. I gotta say, though, that they weren't sold as pre-gapped.

The .040 you are talking about is for the stock plugs and not irridium plugs.

I just run the NGK V-Power copper plug LZTR5A-13 stock #4306 it is only a 30k plug but i like to work on my PT anyway and every 30k is not very often. It runs great on these plugs. Previous owner had Champion double platinum plugs in it. And it runs allot better on the NGK plugs than it even did on the Champion double platinum plugs! It you have ignition gremlins you need to change your wires. They get old and have voltage leaks that can make you think your engine is ready to die. Allot of people change plugs but do not consider the wires. I have a 2002 PT base model. "OLD BLUE"
