Great, I hope it's something as simple as the battery!

I had a Mopar battery in my 08 vert that wouldn't stop corroding. A mechanic friend checked it and said it was the battery post itself, inside the battery. I was under 36K, so took it to dealer who said not only was the Mopar battery bad (even though I could still start the car), but the positive cable had practically disentegrated. Told me it was a common problem, and that the pos cable is a special build and expensive. Warranty covered, but they put another Mopar in. The CCA on that Mopar is weak, but I couldn't beat the price.

This has happened a lot on '06 PTs. My '06 GT did this then it would die when you stopped or slowed for a light.
The dealer claimed that I was the only one with the problem, Not true, there are several complaints filed with the feds.
I mailed the complaint card from the back of the owners manual to Chrysler.
Finally got it fixed. They replaced the computer and some ignition parts. Not sure which. The dealer has sold out.

My issue re-appeared today as I parked the vehicle and was about the shut it off.

So, my defective battery wasn't the answer. I also don;t think its the ignition switch because it doesn't affect the radio or anything else that uses/runs off the ignition switch.

Richard -are you able to provide exactly which parts the dealer replaced? What do you mean the "dealer has sold out"?

Okay so i have a 2007 pt cruiser and with in the last couple of weeks my instrument panel will go crazy. my mph wont register neither will my temp or rpms. the oil battery and every other light will come off, but when it does this its intermittent. it will do it for a few minutes to a few second before it either stops and goes back to normal or the gauges just stop working all together. sometime this problem is fixed or aggrivated by hitting a bump or something. any info will be helpful

Yes the dealer sold out or traded dealerships.
The work order did not show what was replaced. They told that the Chrysler engineers said that that had to be the computer or the ignition module. So they replaced both. I will try and see if the new dealer has the info.

Thanks a lot - that would be great. My PT is out of warranty, so if I have to buy either of those modules its gonna be big money!

Well, with over 1000 views on the topic, others must be having the same problem!

Any ideas? I haven't replaced anything yet because the vehicle will go weeks without any issues and then it will act up twice in a day. I notice it a lot when braking, but it does happen when I'm simply driving a consistent speed.

I don't want to spend $600.00 on a new computer to find out it wasn't the problem.

Could it be the multi-function switch?
