Default Intermittent Radio

Hello all, This is my first time here. I have a 2003 PT Cruiser with an intermittent radio. Some times the radio will not come on when I start the car. If I turn the key off and back on the radio will usually work. Today I was driving down the road and the radio quit. A simple off & on the the ignition switch and it came back. Do PT Cruisers have a history of bad ignition switches, or am I on the wrong track?

Thanks in advance for your assistance
Richard

Richard,

I had that problem with my '06. Since it is still under factory warranty the dealer fixed it. First they changed out the radio. No luck. Then they replaced the PCM (Powertrain Control Module.) That did it.

Perhaps not what you wanted to hear.

There have been ignition switch causes of radio failure. Also, do you have a tilt steering wheel? Some found it is prevalent at certain tilts, which means a connector gets pulled on....

Thanks to those that responded. I found the problem. With the engine running the key can be pulled out about ¼", causing the radio to shut down. Push the key back in and the radio comes back on. Think I'll leave it alone.

You have a lot of keys and other junk on your key ring? It causes the ignition switch to wear out.
Yeah, several folks have found "playing" with the ignition switch causes/cures the problem....
