Exclamation Oil Drain Plug!

You know when something seems just to straight forward then it turns out to be not the case! I have a Diesel 2.2L CRD Touring Cruiser 2003 and am in the process of giving it an oil change. Not something I have done before but thought I would give it a go as it seems a straight forward process. However I have now broken 2 sockets trying to get the drain plug out! I am turning it anti clock wise as it seems the natural way to turn it but I could be wrong. Is it just bad luck or am I turning it the wrong way.

"Tech" dude - talk about the "anti" handle for you....... Yes counter clockwise is correct - drive the PT and get it good and hot over to a quality tool store to buy a name brand 6 sided socket - get the correct size.

If all else fails, you may need to apply a more heat from a heat gun (aka hair-dryer).

You taught me something though - I did not know they built diesel PT's... What country are you from????

Certainly not America - the "anti" diesel.

Diesels where sold in European countries. They have never bee offered here, mainly due to our GASOLINE economy and because of the way we manufacture fuel in AMerica. We get more gasoline here and they make more diesel in Europe. Also diesel doesn't have a very good name in America. It's starting to catch on here but is still WAY behind.

If I send you a self-addressed international-stamped envelope, could you mail me an orphan diesel engine and manual transmission? Please?

Use a rachet wrench. Give the handle a little tap with a mallet and it should break loose. Whoever put it on that tight is an idiot.

Put a good box wrench on it and rap the end with a rubber mallet - a box wrench is easier to keep level than a socket and less likely to round the head because of tilting.

Actually, a box wrench can slip off and mess up the bolt head while a rachet wrench won't.
