I appreciate it. Aloha, Tommy.
If you stay with your D35, the rear disc brakes from a grand cherokee are a direct bolt on. No fab work, no drilling holes, nothen. Just bolt them on.
If you want to go with a leaf spring same width as your TJ wrangler, the Cherokee or YJ wrangler are the same as the TJ. The older Cherokees had a D35 also, newer ones went to the 8.25 unless they had ABS, then still D35. Liberty rear axle is another option for disc brakes but harder (more expensive) to find.

Very good info! I plan on staying with the Dana 35 housing. I don't mind converting it to a leaf spring set-up. So what year would that Grand Cherokee be for the bolt on disk assemblies? What exactly does that include? rotors, callipers, any brackets? What do the callipers bolt on to? Any changes with the axles or hand brake cables? Some pictures of the setup would be super nice. Thanks for your support. Aloha, Tommy.

BTW: that is a great project you are doing. It wouldn't be something I would try as I do not have the knowledge nor equipment to even attempt it.
Looks like I better update my profile. Thanks for your support and comments. Aloha, Tommy.

I found this kit at JC Whitney. It is from a 93-98 Grand Cherokee and fits a 97-06 Wrangler TJ with dana 35 axles. Very pricey: $529.99 + shipping. Does anyone see anything missing? Should there be an axle retainer plate that slips onto the axle? Anyone know of other kits? Thanks for your support, Tommy.

Does anyone have an actual close up view of how and where the rear brake caliper is mounted on a 93-98 Grand Cherokee? Does it mount to the backing plate? Or a parts diagram with the breakdown of the complete brake assembly? Thank you for your support, Tommy.

Ok, I found it. The splash shield and caliper bracket shown below is from a 1998 Jeep Cherokee ZJ with dana 35 axles. I see where the caliper bolts to, at the top two bolt holes on the caliper bracket. Very good! The picture is much clearer now. I can see why the kit is so expensive. All these parts add up. I'll check around for used parts. If anyone knows where I can find some, let me know. If I can't find used parts, I will have to go with a new kit. I have found 3 different stores so far, that sell the new kit. Thank you, Tommy.

id look for some local jeep club forums that are where you are and search the classifieds or even post in the wanted section. alot of jeepers hate the D35 axle for various reasons (sadly most people have no real experience with the axle though and just go by what others say who also have no experience ) so they swap em out all the time including the ZJ guys. you could even check on jeepforum.com for some brake stuff but then youll have to ship it.

ZJ tech section:
ZJ & WJ Technical Forum
you can find some great info in there about the brakes if you wade through it or use the search function

For sale section:
JeepForum.com Classifieds - Parts For Sale
on the left is a box with the different sections of the classifieds

Edit: heres someone parting out their D35 axle from their ZJ

AlTheKiller, I will certainly review everything you have provided. Thank you so much, it's greatly appreciated. Someone from Ebay just told me about the website posted below. Another good site! Aloha, Tommy.

Here is a progress update! This picture shows the forward engine mount and rack & pinion cross member, and the main rear cross member installed and how I tied both of them together for added strength. I have also been working on my sons 2003 GT Mustang. That is the reason why progress on the PT has been slow. It should pick up now. Thank you, Tommy.

Got the gas tank cover bolted to the tank and the tank painted. Now I will cut the hole in the floor. Thanks for looking.
