Default corroded rims causing air to leak

My front tire on my 2001 limited edition PT cruiser has a slow leak. I went to get it looked at and they told me, "Eventually you'll need to get new rims" and filled my tire up. They said that my valve stem hole was corroded and may eventually cut the valve stem.

So I did a lot of googling and found out that many other people have this same problem. I don't know what the next step is. Do I contact a Chrysler dealership? Buy new rims? Take it to a tire specialist and have them sand off the corrosion?

I have to make a 200 mile drive tonight and am worried that my car is unsafe to drive on. What would you advise?

P.S. I cross posted to the tire/wheel section. Don't be annoyed.

Yup it's common. Tire needs to be taken off, corrosion scrubbed off, and glommed with bead sealer. That usually does it.

1. Where ya from? Cause winter driving in snow w/salt can corrode even the best rims..

Common issue.

And since its an 01 you are out of luck with a dealer they are expensive too = ebay/craigslist for a new wheel or even a new set if they are cheap enough. Lots of that style still floating around cheap..

Hell if they are painted non-dimpled I have one sitting in my garage for sale cheap since it does have a minor scratch on it.

You just asked the same question in the "wheels " section. Why are you asking again here ?

He did explain he cross posted so to make sure he got an answer.. You are the mod - so the rules are yours to enforce. But just making sure you saw he did give a reason.
