Hard call...

except the evidence isn't totally gone. You do have dated pictures here, online, which, believe it or not, counts as establishing a chain of evidence.

You don't have any physical proof of the prior arrangement, except reasonable expectation was established when you told us what you expected to happen here on the forum, which is also time-stamped.

Personally, I'd print a copy of this thread and mail it to myself, just in case I needed it later.

I'd start looking for a new job, if I were you.

If he effed you over this time, he'll do it again. Also, he'll always wonder "When's this guy going to get back at me?" and so will consider you a risk and may fire you for some stupid reason anyway.

Personally, I know I'd never trust the guy or his family again, and I'd always be looking over my shoulder when at work.

Integrity, once lost, is very hard to regain. I wouldn't advertise the fact that the guy is a dishonourable and untrustworthy p***k, but I wouldn't hide my disdain for him and his family, either.

Good luck!

Good grief, what a jerk.

I'm afraid I've got to agree with Badger: start hunting for another job, partly because if he'd screw you like this once, he'll do it again; and partly because --- out of his own paranoia, if nothing else --- he'll be hunting for a reason, no matter how foolish, to fire you. It's silly, I know: all you did was come to work on time and do your job, and it's cost you $500 and all your respect for your boss.

On the bright side: HE'LL be stuck with his idiot nephew.....

Travis it sounds like you work for the same type of Ass-O that I used to work for. I understand it could be eating at you but its not worth getting yourself upset over because that will only hurt you. Stay calm and know that people like that will always get what they really deserve, in the end.

Travis,

Yep, start polishing that resume. It is much easier to find a job when you have a job.

I would also leave the hit 'n run story out of the interview. You did not say what you do for a living but it is a sure bet if you are looking in the same industry, your new boss will know or at least know of your current boss.

I have always made it a personal policy to never work for a crook or a liar and especially a lying crook. It's always worked for me.

Get the new job THEN tell everybody you know what happened.

Good Luck.

I didn't see any follow up - did the UPS (iirc) place have video or not? It might give you some wiggle room, I mean, if your ins is still investigating and all you did was turn over evidence and THEY found proof his nephew did it, that has nothing to do with you. I'd still try to line up another job, regardless, as others have pointed out he'll be waiting and watching.

And GA's a right to work state meaning he can fire you for anything. If you can prove it's retaliation about something, work related or otherwise, you might have a hostile work env/wrongful term suit, but who knows how long that would take (though it would be poetic justice for this family to have to pay the damages AND lost wages AND emotional suffering!).

Good luck no matter what you do. I almost think a suit would be the best thing brought against these people to prove that little guys won't always take it, but again, that's a big can of worms and only you can decide if it's worth it or not.

What a low-life.
I'd start looking for another job. You can't trust this a-hole.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

To answer regarding evidence, there was no video pointed in our direction at UPS. All I have is the photos I took.. but honestly, I'm letting it go.

As far as the job, yes I am going to look. I hate it because I love my job (CNC Waterjet operator at a machine shop) but the simple fact is there are only about 2 people in here I trust with the vast majority falling under the category "toxic employee."

This is my first time working at a family owned business, previously it's been big companies like Great Dane and Temcor. At any rate, there is no "human resources" here. When you are given a hard time by a fellow employee you have to deal with it yourself. One of the biggest jerks in here happens to be the brother of the foreman, so in short, he gets away with anything he wants to because he knows he isn't going anywhere. As you know the guy that hit my car is the nephew of the owner... so there you have it.

For now I am just going to deal with this crap like I have for the last 27 months. I've got plenty of work to do but am going to polish the resume and see what's out there if anything... I'm on pace to make close to 50k this year which to me is a lot of money and I don't know if I can replace it right away, but might as well give it a shot.

Thanks again for all the comments... I'll close by saying that I am going to hold out as long as I can but at the same time I'm a big believer in "an eye for an eye."

Well, for those of you that have been following this for the past month, I got laid off yesterday.

Big surprise eh? I saw it coming, which is why I didn't quit previously.

They called me to the office and the owner said "Travis, it's our understanding that you aren't happy here. You seem constantly stressed." I replied "I have no problems with anyone other than 2 certain individuals (the guy that hit my car and the guy that constantly harrasses me)..." He replied "Well I think it's best if you find another job." I asked about unemployment and he said "Yes."

My separation notice says "Lack of Work" which is a total crock because I've been working 50 hours a week since March and still had plenty of work to do. Personally, I think he's covering his arse and in a roundabout way he's "firing" me.

I only paid back $120 out of the $500 deductible that he was taking out of my check each week.. he said the rest is forgiven and wished me luck. Now it's a matter of trying to live off $355 a week unemployment while I find a job... I do have a bit of savings so I'll be ok for a while but still, $355 a week is a joke.

At any rate, it's been a wild 30 days.. my car gets hit by the bosses nephew who denies it.. I'm stuck with the bill, I'm continually harrassed by another employee like I have been pretty much every day for 2 years, and then I lose my job. Of course the 2 guys who are family don't...

I'm not even mad though... I was stressed out there dealing with crap on a daily basis and I feel as if a big weight has been taken off my shoulders. I will never work for a family run business again if I can help it.
