Default brake drum noise?

I did a search and the results were only mentioning swapping to disc rear brakes. My passenger rear drum shoes are rubbing against the backing plate. I have replaced the drum and it went away. 10 days later i hear it creeping back. The shoes are about 9 monthes old and in great condition. as i come to a stop i hear it so the noise is a slight rubbing, right as I come to a stop. Not the entire time I am braking.

I can see where the rubbing is taking place but not sure what I can do to alleviate the problem. Little bit of grease??

any help would be greaaaat.

TIA

Go to your nearest auto store (NAPA has it for $3) and pick up a tube of high temperature grease. Put it on the edges of the shoes or smear some on the baking plate.

Applying grease to brake parts!? Better use it sparingly and away from the shoe braking surfaces.

This raises more questions in my mind.........

Is the rubbing sound as it rolls round and round? Or as the brakes go in and out with pressure?

Did you have the drums turned or replaced 9 months ago when it got new brakes?

Was that a DYI job or pro done?

When you replaced the drum, did you also replace the shoes?

Was this a DYI job or pro done?

At any rate - brakes are too important to be half-way done. I suggest taking it to a qualified shop.

I'm not saying to slop it on all over the place but a little dab of high temp brake grease on the contact points of where it's rubbing.

For some more ideas:

Eliminating Disc Brake Noise

(bottom of the article talks about drums)

I dont think grease would be applied to the shoe or the drum. there is a slight bend in the rear plate that is slighty touching, thus creating the rubbing as the brake is applied harder for stopping.

thanks for the additional input.

Got the above PM from the OP....... Does not sound like grease will help with a rotating rub...... Like I said more questions needed to be asked.....

More like fixing whatever is bent needs to happen.........

Since when does Private (keyword!!) messaging get cut n pasted into the topic? I think you need an update on forum ethics rookie.

Crewzin offered advice, a reccomendation NOT a direct order to slap grease all over the place. Advice has been taken.

thanks

Bringin back an older thread. I had a tiny squeal when my '07 would just about stop. Plus there was a slight rubbing sound, that I usually could only hear while driving next to the concrete barriers. Both sounds appear to be from the drivers side.

I pulled my rear drum off to inspect and the shoe measured about 4mm (1/8"), but I was told this should be about half life. I was going to check against a set of new shoes. Also, when I spun the drum it seamed to make a tiny rubbing noise. But, had my wife listen and the squeal was definitely coming from the front wheel. So, I pulled off the caliper. The pads were plenty think, but the back pad appeared to have 1/8" pits in it. It looked like pieces of the pads had just crumbled out. So, I purchased new front pads, I got semi-metallic. After installing the pads I realized the old pads were ceramic, if it makes a difference.

Now, there is no squeal. But there is still a rubbing sound, which actually sounds louder or is just more noticable. I'm assuming this was the sound I was hearing from the rear drum. Based on Crewzin's link, it doesn't squeal so it must be the pads and the drum. I'm guessing that the edges of the shoe are rubbing the drum. I could try to grind the edges of the brakes if I knew they were asbestos free, but I'm weary of doing this to a braking system. So, I can either install new pads or turn the drum. Does this sound right?
