Default PT won't start OCCASIONALLY

2002 Touring Edition. My wife left the lights on once and killed the battery, so we jumped it and it seemed fine.

However, the next morning it would not start; lights and buzzer, no engine. After ten tries or so it finally started. But just for the heck of it, I bought a new battery.

Seemed fine, but a week or so later the same problem: dash lights and buzzer but no response from the engine at all. Try ten times, and it starts.

So we took it to a mechanic; they thought something might be wrong with the starter so they installed a new one.

Again, fine for a few weeks, then this morning the same problem.

Any ideas?

Does it crank and not "catch", or starter doesn't turn?
Clicking sound? Need more clues.

No cranking at all.

Only electrics come alive; engine dead silent.

Call ahead, but I think Sears and WalMart will check you charging system for free - might be alternator.
Other hunch is ignition switch.
Try pushing in on key when you turn to start, see if that makes a difference.
Battery cables tight?

Do you have foglamps? Maybe the MF switch is causing the lights to come on and stay on.
