Default Let me introduce myself...

Hello everyone.

My name is Tom, and I'm a new PT Cruiser owner. I live in SoCal.

The car is a 2001 PT, with <gulp> 246,000 miles on it. I know the seller and I'm familiar with the history of the car and I'm hoping for a few years of low-mileage usage as an extra car.

The car is on its third transmission, and recently had some suspension work done. But otherwise hasn't had too many major repairs. The prior owner was a friend of mine, and this his a daily driver until a couple weeks ago. He has an 160 mile round trip commute, hence the high mileage.

So I've already learned a ton from scanning the archives here, and look forward to learning more.

If anybody has any suggstions for things to watch out for in a high-mileage PT, let me know. Otherwise, I'll be lurking in the weeds....

Let me be the first to say welcome. I can only hope to hit that many miles with the pt. Highest milage car we've had in the family was our 93 grand cherokee which we retired with 235k miles when the engine finally blew out more oil than it kept.

Welcome.
Ask pior owned when last transmission was put in. If it was over 50,000 miles ago, ask if it's been flushed.
Autos should be flushed every 50,000 miles.

The timing belt has been done twice, including the water pump. Not sure about he tensioner.

The original owner is a good friend. He has an insane commute and puts on the mileage fast. After driving it about 5 years, it became his wife's daily driver; she has a fairly long commute as well. So lotsa miles.

My application is as an extra car and won't put on a lot of mileage; about 2 miles each way to the train station every day is about it.

Another poster asked about the trans fluid flush; I'll have to take a look at the records, but probably not. I'm not sure about the chemical flush, but changing the fluid would probably be in order.
