Post Cruise control question

I just purchased a 2005 limited cruiser and so far I am very pleased. I just have one concern and was wondering if anyone else has experienced it. When I have the cruise control set and my speed reaches 6-7 mph over where the cruise is set (mostly going down steep hills) the engine seems to go in neutral to bring the speed back down. The RPM's shoot up to about 3000. I have never owned a mopar product and I am not sure if this is normal or something that I should be concerned about.

Mine keeps it very close to where I set it. Now, depending on how steep a hill you're talking about, could be the issue; but otherwise it sounds like it needs to re-learn. A lot of things can be fixed by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnect - it clears the memory of the computer and re-learns. The transmission controller does this by how you drive. Of course if that doesn't work, I'm sure there'll be other suggestions from many on this site.

This is our 3rd PT and I previously had a Dodge Dakota, all of them did/do the very same thing when going down a steep grade, over reving the engine. The first time it did that I thought it was going to blow up. The only thing I do now is when I break over the crest of a hill is to disconnect the cruise control.

Welcome.
Yeah, what it's done is downshift to lower gear to slow you down - that's why revs go up.
