Hey their scarabY2k,

Welcome to the Forum. We got lots of great people here always more than willing to help out with anything PT related anytime, so if you ever need anything and can't find it on this site, please don't be afraid to ask and one of us should be able to help with pretty much anything that comes up.

One of my long time close friends, and metal fabricator buddy is also a hard core V-Dub Enthusiast big time, and has corraled me into a couple of VW builds of his in the past. The last project was a 74 bug which he did the mechanical, and I redid the body, and cosmetics. A little older than your bug as I gather, but still in the V-Dub category so they are kinda distant cousins I recon. Was a fun build for sure. Here is a couple of quick pic's.

He is now working on a V-Nose bus which he is trying to get me to come up with a way of reworking suiciding the front wrap around doors with custom one off hidden hinges, and shaved handles, etc, for a nice clean trick look. Yet another one of my endless projects that keep popping up when I'm not looking. LOL

Anyways, back on track. Once again, welcome to our happy Forum, go easy, and I hope to see ya around.

WOW! That is one sick bug! You and your buddy do choice work Candyman! Thanks for the welcome and the offer for the help. I'm sure i'll be taking you guys up on it

And yes my bug is much newer...2000 nB 1.8turbo. I do want an old school bug also.

Speaking of old school... that is one thing that i love about the PT- the old school feel. After all it was the new beetle and the PT Cruiser that brought retro back!

Hey their scarabY2k,

Cool pic's! Please be sure to tell your Wife ol Candyman says Peedie is a way cool ride!

I was gonna say for you to pass along to your Wife to quit being so dang shy and come on over here but then I realized maybe that ain't a really good idea cause once she starts hanging with all us PT Guys and seeing all the crazy stuff we have thought up, and done, she just might get hooked with all this Modding Business, and Next thing ya know I am standing at your front door with a torch, and spray gun in hand! Heck, last time I asked if I could maybe go out and play with my PT a little bit, this is what my Wife found

I also thank you much for the props on my chopping skills. It is always much appreciated, especially from a VW Guy as I know far too well how serious you Guys can get about customizing a V-Dub, more so a Bug. I even tried to pick a year nobody really dug on as to try not to offend anyone in the VW Community. That one started life as a 74 Beetle. I cut the roof first and filled all the seams in to make a permanent roadster, filled and glassed the fenders, chopped and laid the A Piller back 2 1/4", lots and lots filling, sanding, filling, sanding, more sanding, and so on. Oh, did I mention sanding? The rear cover was pretty much my first and last attempt at trying to hand form a part from fiberglass. Really messy, itchy stuff, and then a ton more sanding and forming to get it to look halfway decent. My arms were getting pretty stout after that build for sure. The cover was origionally going to have a functional scoop on it which forced air down to the motor but my buddy decided to scrap it for a smoother look. Here is a pic actually of my scoop idea which I haven't seen in years. Dang man, flashbacks from memory lane right their!

Anyways, I finally rolled er into my friends booth and I actually kinda started backwards to save on the more expensive white paint and shot the car with 4 coats of a 1994 Mitsubishi Silver Metallic base / clear 2 stage, and then followed up with the really nice 1993 stage Cadillac Pearl White Metallic, and the rest is history. I will say, I really was fairly happy with how it came out as a whole, but with every car you build, their always seems to be that little voice in the back of your head softly whispering "I bet I could have done this, or that and made it so much cooler!" I had even originally had wanted to possibly try to come up with a more retro low boy roadster kind of feel, but my buddy wanted that Cali Cruiser look that he was dreaming of.

Honestly, if I had to do it all over, I probably would have tried to convince him of going more my way as I think it would look way cooler, and more like a purpose built car rather than one that is still cool, but you can tell its just a custom chop Cruisin by. Here is an example of more my thoughts on direction.

And one more V-Dub thought on the table for a future project:

Anyways, sorry to temporarily jack your thread. Just kinda figured since you were a VW Guy ya might enjoy.

You go easy, give my best to your Wife and tell her I said she is always more than welcome to swing by and say Hi anytime!

Catch ya later.

You'd be surprised on the room of a New Beetle. I'm 6'2" and the leg and head room is unbelievable. Although the nB embraces the styling of the old beetle, it's not your dad's bug- heck it's not my bug of old...i'm not exactly a 21 year strapping young lad

I wish the seats on the PT could go up and down though. It would take the cool factor to a whole other level.
I signed my wife up on the newbeetle.org as cc'sbug, but she's never posted. I use her name when I posting on that site..And my drivers seat on my 01 PT LE does go up and down, it has a power switch in the left side of the seat base. Not on the passenger seat though, but that's ok cause I'm never in that seat anyway.lol
