Default Nasty headlight lens

The lenses on my 2004 PT look like they are from 1994. With all that I have been reading about on how to restore these lenes, shouldn't this be a saftey issue. How about a defect. How are the manufacturers getting away with parts that do not last even within the warranty period? Are we suppose to belive this is normal wear and tear? Does anyone know of any class actions or defect complaints to DOT?

Not much you can do to get the manufacturer to replace them. Many thing affect the lens condition, sun, where you park, the soap you use to wash them, etc...

There are several 'kits' you can buy at auto supply shops to restore these yourself, or check with local repairs shops as some here are offering the service for a high fee. I have not tried one of the do-it-yourself kits; but do plan to for another car in the future.

Welcome.
There are many makes of car withthis problem.
I apply polish to the lenses every time I wax and mine are fine.
I have used the kits on other cars - very fine wet sandpaper and a chemical protecting wipe - and they work wonders.

Yup. The U/V yellows the plastic. Some people use clear coat paint with u/v protectant after they get them cleaned up.

Just used the 3M headlight kit on my PT and my daughter's Saturn. Worked great. $18.00 at Walmart.
