Default New Owner - with some quickies

Hello Fellers,
I just got an 06 PT Cruiser (base),auto , 40k miles, $4,700K out of the door from a Nissan dealership. Everything looks and works great except that they only had 1 key which does not have remotes for keyless entry. Question is, aside from the Chrysler dealership which gave me a ridiculous price for cutting+programming a key fob with remote, can I instead go to a locksmith? Do locksmiths already have the technology to implant and program a chip in the key to work with PT's engine immobilizer system? And for the love of god, where is the cabin light switch?

Thanks in advance!!

Welcome.
I hate dealerships because:
1) They always throw out the owner's manual
2) they usually only give one key
BECAUSE THEY ARE LAZY and don't care.
I also hate them because they usually lie.

A base PT doesn't have remote keyless entry.
The switch for the dome light is the light itself - push on the lens to turn it on/off.
You can buy keys online cheaper than dealer, but with only 1 key, you have to go to dealer to have it programmed...

Rats, chrysler confirmed I don't have keyless entry even though the dealer where I bought it from claims it has one. So I think I'd just settle for a spare ordinary key.
Hey, I still cannot turn on that dang dome lights no matter how hard I push on the light cover. It's not even moving and I don't think it has a switch

Welcome to the Forum. On the left lever try rotating the bezel, this should turn the dash lights on, then try pushing a button to the left or right of the lens. On our 2008 we have a button up by the lens, we have a Touring and I am not sure if the Base model has them. Good Luck!!!

My car only had 1 key. I had a locksmith make and program a new key for $40. Check around for a locksmith that has the computer to program a key.

I have both a Touring and a Base PT. The "push on the lens" instruction is for the map light on the Touring, which my Base and your base won't have. To turn on the done light, find the rotating ring on the turn signal stalk that operates the instrument cluster dimmer. Turn it all the way forward (top moving forward) thru a couple of clicks until the dome light comes on. If that won't turn on the dome light, or if opening the door won't turn on the dome light, the bulb is probably bad.

Remember to turn the ring on the stalk back when you are done.

If you didn't get an owner's manual, you should be able to download one from this website. May not be spot-on for an 06, though.
