Default Ignition Switch Problem?

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser that only starts when I "jiggle" the ignition key or hold upward pressure on the key when I turn the key to the start positon. I suspect that the ignition switch is faulty, but want to know how difficult it is to replace and what part needs to be replaced?

Welcome.
Call a locksmith - I've read it isn't that hard or expensive..

The dealer suggested a new ignition switch which would have cost $175 including labor. A small amount of WD-40 on the key seems to have solved the problem. If it re-occurs, I'll check with a locksmith before I do anything else. Thanks.

Lock lube (very fine powdered graphite) is usually a better long-term lubricant for locks. Spray lubes work great, but sometimes attract dirt and gunk, so lead to problems down the road.

that is actually the cheapest you can get, most service offers as much as $250 for parts and labor, those aren't even quality parts.

I have a 2001 pt cruiser automatic transmission. the car will not start. the starter is new all the relays are good and i replaced the ignition key cylinder. i brought it to my mechanic and he said that i need to replace the steering column. i been looking for a used steering column but no luck finding one. and the dealership wants to charge $1200 for a new one. my mechanic said that the key wont go to the start postion. does anyone know what part inside the steering column would be causing the problem? Also i found a steering column for a 2002 pt cruiser the junk yard said that it was a little bit different. i was thinking i could take the part out of the 2002 steering column and replace it in my 2001 pt cruiser. unfortunaly i have no idea what mechanical part is broken. has anyone had this problem if so please help. thanks guys
