Default Looking at a 2008 PT Cruiser

Hi everyone,

I am looking into a 2008 Cruiser for our next car. My wife loves this car, I think it's cool too. We are moving to the Santa Cruz area of California, and so there will be some mountain driving driving on slight grades at times, etc. Can this car handle this kind of driving?

Is there anything I should know about before pursuing this deal?

Thanks,

Mixelplik

I just bought a 2007 and it does great in the mountains...it will do 60 on a 7% grade and 65 on a 6% grade. 6% is the maximum you will normally see on an interstate freeway.

Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of PT Culture It's a lot of fun for sure.

As for things to know, just be careful to not fall too in love with the car that you pay too much or end up buying a car with problems you can't deal with. I'm currently shopping for another PT since mine was wrecked and I'm trying hard to follow my own advice

Test drive it and make sure all the knobs, buttons, levers etc work and ask for a Carfax. Be sure to check out either Kelly Blue Book or NADA values before going out to look at it so you go armed with good information.

When you visit KBB, take a look at the condition quiz so you at least have an understanding of the areas that are used to determine value. That could help you out quite a bit. One of the biggest things to remember is that a vehcile does not qualify as EXCELLENT no matter how good it looks and drives if they do not have 100% of the service and maintence records on the vehicle. If they missed just one oil change, the car cannot be considered excellent.

Look for what's called a "turbo lite" - it's a turbo that uses regular gas and a turbo will remove any power problems you might encounter.
A GT turbo needs premium, but has even more power.
Good luck.

Great thanks guys!

Here's a couple of more details on the car:

2008 PT

52,762 miles

$9,599

buying it through CarMax.

The carfax history checks out clean, it was a former fleet vehicle.

What do you guys think, should I take 'er for a test drive?

Ultimately, that is up to you. Sounds like a decent deal. You might also check out New & Used Cars for Sale, Auto Dealers, Car Reviews and Car Finance Advice or New Cars, Used Cars - Find Cars at AutoTrader.com if you are dead set on a Cruiser. I was able to find several of them on both sites. Some were out of my range, but tonight I'm test driving an '06 Limited Edition that is in my price range.

I agree with QSD!
If you have got some mountain driving, at least get a turbo lite; if not a HO turbo.
You will be disappointed if you don't.
(Unless you won't be pulling a small trailor; and/or don't mind gear jamming a 5 speed.)

I've taken mine to the Georgia mountains, it does pretty well, not as well as our Miata... Keep the Cruiser in '3' when there; and I agree with looking for a TL or GT.

I just bought a 2008 model, and I like it so far. But I can't pop the hood. I tried pulling the lever but the hood won't open, what should I do?
