Exclamation Chipped paint

Hey all! I've just purchased a 2008 PT Cruiser three weeks ago and something terrible happened...the paint got chipped on the front end and on the driver's side door.

My first mistake was taking it to an automatic car wash due to all the salt that got on it from the roads this time of year. I was ignorant of the fact that they can screw up your paint until now. That's a word of warning to others that may consider automatic car washes a good idea.

So, I'm going to take it to the local Maaco body shop to get the chips touched up (totaling about 12 to 15) this week. My question is, has anyone done this and how expensive is it going to be? BTW I'm located near St. Louis, MO on the Illinois side. Thanks for your time!

Paint chipping on the PT has been ongoing since they first came out.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase. Hopefully Candyman will see your thread and give you some good advice for your chips. On your thoughts on taking it to Macco, don't do anything until they see your PT and you get an estimate on the work. If there's enough chips, you'll probably be better off having the whole section (door, bumper etc.) painted rather than trying to match up small areas. Since it's an 08 there shouldn't be any paint fade so it should be pretty easy to match up if they know what their doing.

Really? Can you recommend anything that will mitigate this? Well, besides not taking it through automatic car washes.

Crewzin,

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, that is what I planned on doing is getting a quote and seeing what options they offer. As far as I can tell, there wasn't enough major damage done to warrant repainting whole sections but I'll keep that in mind. The driver's side door only has two chips missing out of the very edge. I tell ya, it seem that those brushes were really a cat o' nine tails than any sort of car wash apparatus. LOL I try and keep my humor about it but gosh, I love the car and I'm still pretty hot about that. I just hope that others will learn from my screw up.
