Has anyone experieced a MIL (check engine light) and not have a code? Could it be a faulty fuel cap?

Even a faulty fuel cap (or not tightened down correctly) will set off a fault code. Are you sure your checking it right. After you do the key dance, does it read "done". If no codes are stored in the computer, it will read "done" where the fault code would be.

P.S. no need to post the same problem in two different places on the forum.

I had a similar problem with my 2007...the key dance would show no codes and say done. When I took it to Autozone they found a code that was basically for a loose cap. I had left it off on a long trip...and after a few days it went away and has not come back.

Question Re: MIL (check engine light) without a DTC

Crewzin / azphotog,

Thanks for the responding...and thanks for the advice about posting. I'm uncertain of the method used by the Technician at Advanced Auto. Previously, I had codes stored (P0300, 0303) and changed several components (wires, plugs, PVC, battery and the coil). Several days passed and the MIL flashed and then extinguished. Then, it flashed and remained illuminated. So, the next time I passed Advanced Auto, i asked for the codes, but none exist. I'll inquire or get the check done again. If you agree that it is the cap, should I purchase a replacement from a chrysler dealership (OEM)?

If the light is ever flashing, you need to get it fixed as soon as possible. Do not drive the car with a flashing check engine light.

A dealer shouldn't charge more than $60-100 for a full diagnosis, then you'll know for sure.

The cap rarely goes bad. Usually it's just not tight enough (3 clicks while turning clock-wise) and the light will go off after a certain number of times after you start the engine and the computer see's the problem has gone away. So give it some time to clear itself.
