Smile Location of the crankshaft position sensor on 2005 pt cruiser

Hello, I'm a new user to this web site
I'm somewhat of a mechanic and do most of my own maintenence.
I feel that my cps went out. I have a haynes manual that states the cps is on the rear side of the engine above the oil filter, but I dont see it.
All I see is the oil sending unit. Is the manual wrong? Refer to haynes pt cruiser 2001-2009. Chap.6,pg 6-7, section 5.2,. I'm stumped on this one.
The picture i'snt very clear. Illistration 5.3 It shows the sensor, but gives no orientation of exactly where it is. If anyone could help it would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

I believe it's on the radiator side of the engine behind the starter. But I'm not 100%

If it's not there, check right above the oil filter. That's where it's at on the 2001-03 cruisers.

Hello:

My name is Racquel - AKA: Rockadocious

My engine in my PT Cruiser 2005 was shaking really bad the other day and my engine light came on. I got a price quote of $1,234.00 for repairs. Not being so engine/repair saavy, I wanted to ask you all if you think that the following quote was pricey for the repair of my vehicle:

Upper and lower engine mounts (right side) - $376.00 plus tax
**How many mounts are on the right side?

Cam Sensor $220.00 for engine misfire
**This looks easy to access on the cruiser, am I wrong?

Tune up and plug wires 114.95 (for engine misfire)

Battery Terminal $41.00

Battery leaking acid $138.00

Throttle body/injector service $174.95
**What happens with a throttle body/injector service? What do they do?

PCV Valve $53.00

Rockadocious, Welcome to the forum.

Sure sounds like the mechanic wants to take a vacation in the Bahamas on your dine.

Is there any way you can get a second/third opinion? There's a few things that we can't comment on without seeing your PT. We also need your mileage and whatever maintenance has been done in the past.

In the order you gave us:

Motor mounts could possibly need changing but usually at higher mileage and if the engine shaking or moving a lot when sitting at idle.

Camshaft sensor will usually give you a code from the computer when it's going bad. Do you know what code was set in the computer? Read here to find out what codes are stored: How to retrieve fault codes.

Plugs and wires are always a good thing to change when having engine problems but again, when was the last time they were changed on your car?

Battery terminal/battery leaking: Can't tell without looking at the battery. Is the battery the original one that came with the car? Did the mechanic show you any kind of leak or damage done by the leaking battery acid? Was the car starting well when you first turned it over in the morning?

Throttle body/Injector service is something mechanics do to tack on extra money to your bill. What's your mileage. Do you use any kind of name brand gasoline? Most have cleaners already mixed in with the gas.

PCV valve: Again, what's your mileage? The valve usually lasts for 100K at least and will give a fault code to the computer when the sensors think there's something wrong with it.

Good luck. Hope that helps you out. Best thing; get a second opinion.

Hey...Thanks Crewzin...

Well, my vehicle is exactly 49,559 (mileage) - Does that help? The battery was replaced about a year ago. It just seemed a bit pricey to me. The mounts weren't even much when I looked up the price. How many mounts can there be on the upper and lower (Right side) of the vehicle? The mounts were priced when I looked them up for $30-$40 <--max a piece so I don't understand why it would be so high. This was actually at a dealership that's why...

BTW, I totally love my PT, how about you?
