Default 2002 Engine Shutoff?

I was on my way to work today and pulled out of my apartment complex. I was driving for about 1/2 mile and all of a sudden my engine instantly shut off. Everything related to batt stayed on. I put it in neutral and rolled into the nearest parking lot. When I tried to re-start the engine it would crank but would not turn over. There was no warning at all. No check engine light or any other LED to indicate a problem. The engine did not bog down it just shut off. The car has 143k and is standard but was running absolutely great. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I'll bet your timing belt went. Should be replaced at about 100,000 miles.
Runs $700- $1,000.

It's not necessarily your timing belt, although that's a possibility. Other possibilities include a bad cam/crank sensor, bad fuel pump, bad coil, bad fuse or relay (check them all).

If the timing belt hasn't been replaced (along with waterpump) at 100k then it is long overdue and probably went.

I had a similar problem, the timing belt was fine. Mine had 147k on it. It tunred out that there was a wire that was rubbing on the driveshaft that had worn through. Once I had that fixed, it started right up. I may have fried something out in the process (i have a different problem now) but it starts up every time now.
