I am wondering if I should use synthetic oil in my 08 with 41000 on it,is this too many miles to start it,also when should I do the tranny fluid and filter.

By all means synthetic oil, and your pretty much due for a filter and transmission fluid change. If your not going to the dealer or doing it yourself than I recommend buying the transmission stuff yourself and bringing it with you and making sure they use it. I just did it at Pet Boys and I brought my own Royal Purple ATF max. Places like Pet boys and Jiffy lube will use crappy dextron with additives and tell you it's just as good but it's not.

I use Mobile1 in all my cars - 5W-30, and go at least 5000 before changes. Advanced Auto often has it on special for under $30 for 5-quarts and a filter.

Agree with others - no reason not to use synthetic. Yes, it costs more, but it's way better.
Do your tranny at/before 50,000 miles - I'd look for a place that has a flushing machine - gets all the fluid - and be sure only ATF + 4 is used.

Me too. I use synthetic in all my vehicles and bikes. Sure it cost a little more but the protection is better and if you believe the change interval is longer so the cost equals out. Good luck

The statement that you cannot switch to synthetic oil in a higher mileage vehicle is a myth. You can switch at any mileage.

The factory recommends a tranny flush at 60k miles. I always do mine early. I don't pay attention to when the manual says to do it. When it starts getting dirty/dark I do it, whether it's 20k miles or 80k. I don't go past the recommendation, though, so I'd do it at 60k even if it's still clean.

I use Mobil 1 and recommend that. I'm planning on using Mobil 1 ATF in my tranny when I flush it, but I need to check with Mobil 1 to make sure it's compatible.

It's not listed on their site, that's one of the reason I went with Royal Purple over Mobil 1

Mobil 1 Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)

I guess it says right there "not recommended for CVT applications". I'll put an email into Mobil just to be sure, otherwise I'll just use the OEM fluid since it's easy to get at my work.
